Though I've been to the OR coast probably 100x, this was my first trip to Otter Rock. If your focus is on the sand, tide-pools, water, cliffs, and rock formations (and not so much on coffee shops and art galleries, since there aren't any) then this is a great place.
House worked very well for us. Upstairs bedroom slept our whole family (2 adults + 2 kids in the bunks), while another couple was comfortable in the downstairs bedroom. A full bath on each floor makes this work well. We didn't use the 3rd "bedroom" (bonus room with a futon) so can't speak to how well it works as another sleeping room.
Upstairs also included a big living room area with giant couch, perfect for lounging, reading, watching, and making forts. As others have noted, house is well stocked for kids (toys + games, booster seat for the dining room, etc). However, it's worth noting that the staircase is not fully kid-safe. Space between the balusters is probably about 12 inches - plenty of space for a toddler or baby to pass through (I believe modern codes allow 4 inches max). Wasn't a problem for us as our youngest is nearly 3, but if yours are much younger you'll want to keep on eye on them as they go up and down the stairs. (I'm perhaps overly sensitive to this since I personally broke my arm in one of these falls when I was not quite 2 yrs old.)
Overall we liked the house and location very much. If you were fortunate enough to grow up with the occasional OR beach house rental (or Mt. Hood cabin rental) then you'll feel right at home. A bathroom with rough cedar walls, a slightly funky staircase, cool sloping dormers, a big deck, bunk beds, and functioning VCR! Nobody will mistake it for a the 4 seasons but that's kind of the point. Comfy, warm, great kitchen, and one of the best locations in town (right across the street from the path to the beach).
We didn't overlap at all with Anna, but had no problems with the reservation and instructions, and she even left a little treat for us (though I wouldn't want to set expectations...)
All in all a great experience for us.
The space is welcoming, warm and comfortable. The fully stocked kitchen made my stay just as if I was at home. There are clear instructions posted on how to use the entertainment system as well as checkout procedures. You can see the ocean from the upstairs and hear it with the windows open. The beds are warm, and comfortable. The house was very clean and the neighborhood quiet. It's a five minute walk to the beach.
The only downside that I have is that the pictures make it seem that the bunkbeds are in a separate room, however they are not. There is one bedroom upstairs with a bed and the bunkbeds, a full bedroom downstairs, and then there is a partial room downstairs with a futon. This didn't harm my trip or the guests that accompanied me, but I do feel as if it was a little misdescribed. This does not diminish the overall feel of the place.
It was a wonderful experience and I would highly recommend the space. If Anna would have me, I would love to stay again.
My family and I really loved Anna's house. The location is simply amazing! So close to the beaches and incredibly cozy. We saw seals and whales, explored coves, etc.. Truly a beautiful experience, can't wait to visit again!
Anna's description of the house was quite clear, but the house was much more delightful than we expected. The directions to the house were very clear; the lock opened without difficulty. The house is an easy walk to the beach, which can be seen from the upper living room windows, as well in a good location vis-à-vis other coast attractions. The space itself worked very well for the five of us: the kitchen is well-equipped, the dining table large, and the upper living room space comfortable for family gatherings. We had a wonderful family reunion at Anna's beach house. Jane Brown
This was our first time visiting the Otter Rock area and staying at Anna’s house we perfectly situated. Across the street is a short trail down to a wide swath of beach with a waterfall, tide pools, and of course Devil’s Punchbowl.
The house is big, and the upstairs is the best place to be. There were plenty of books and toys for my curious 3 year old, and a pack n’ play for our 3 week old. However, it’s really a 2 bedroom house with a sunroom in the back that has a futon couch. It wasn’t a problem for us, but something worth knowing.
The host graciously let us in an hour before check-in time. Oddly, someone showed up a half an hour before check-out time to see if we had left yet. That did make the last few minutes of the trip feel rushed, but overall a great stay and we’d stay there again.
What a gem! Our family came together from all over the country to this fantastic place on the Oregon Coast. We couldn't have asked for a better place. The house was super cozy and very well stocked. We have stayed at lots of VRBO's and airbnb' s and they claim to be one thing or another…sometimes they are what they say they are, and sometimes not. This is one that is what it says it is and BEYOND!! The house sits on a dead end street with the path to the beach just a few feet away. You walk down the trail for about two minutes and come out on the beach and THERE IS THE DEVILS PUNCHBOWL! Unreal!!
We will definitely be back!
Adorable home in Sunriver! Super close in and easy to walk around. We were here for a short time but would definitely book again! Beds were comfortable and everything was in great condition. Thanks for having us!
Amazing location! The house is cozy and great for families. Anna is a great host and respond timely to all questions and requests.... We loved it.
This house was SO awesome! We loved the location -- it was an easy walk to surfing at Otter Rock. The back door was set up great for washing up from beach play and surfing. The upstairs area was a big hit with everyone. The kids loved all the toys, and the adults enjoyed the cozy couch that looked out over the sunset. The kitchen was really well stocked too. We were happy to find some of our favorite kitchen tools in the cabinets (like an immersion blender!). The big kitchen table was perfect for our little crowd, and we loved sharing meals there. It was also nice to have two full bathrooms and a washer and drier.
The one thing that it might be nice to know is that none of the bedrooms have a high degree of privacy. They are all immediately off of main living areas, with varying degrees of doors (a heavy curtain for one bedroom, doors with glass windows and light curtains in another case). This wasn't a problem at all for our group (two families with young kids), but depending on your get away goals, it might be a hindrance to intimacy, varying sleep habits within a group, or other things!
Overall, we were exceptionally pleased and would definitely stay here again!!!!!
Anna's home was a perfect getaway. Our group (two couples) had tons of space. The red sofa was a perfect congregating spot after our long days. Anna provided many little treats and extras for our use ( movies, books, local flyers, a bit of coffee, even TP!).
Otter Rock is quiet and beautiful. The house is very close to the beaches and sights. i can certainly see myself returning!
