The place is nice and quiet in the countryside. As someone has remarked, it’s also a bit remote and yoy definitely need a car to go there - but that was OK, since that was also what we expected.
The apartment was nice, clean and well equipped for up to 4 persons. But be aware that there is no living room. Relaxing is supposed to take place outdoor, which makes you quite dependant on the weather ;-)
We stayed there off season, as the only guests, and the place appeared a bit closed down. The host was in Rome, and the couple who looked after the place spoke only Italian, which made communication a bit difficult.
Based on that, we would give only 3 stars. However, despite language problems the people at the place was very helpful, opened the otherwise closed restaurant and prepared a very nice dinner (including a good wine) and breakfast. That's worth an extra star ;-)
We stayed in Antico Casale for 2 nights and it was perfect!! Fantastic place to stay there and relax. The apartment in which we stayed had everything we need and the pool was great. We had two wonderful dinners there and from our 2 week travel across Italy I can surely say that for the great value we got, this was the cheapest dinner we had in Italy! Wonderful cooking! We were greeted by Eduardo and he was just great - extremely helpful and friendly, even if we occasionally have trouble understanding each other, the communication with him was always a pleasure.
I must say that we felt rather isolated at this location. I expected to be in the town of Umbertide, but we were in the hills outside of town, and the location was somewhat difficult to find. Having a car is essential to staying at this location.
The hosts were friendly, and tried to make us feel at home, however, Alessandro apparently is not one of the owners. He lives in Rome, and it was sometimes difficult to reach him. There is a restaurant on site which caters just to the guests at the location. We were the only people staying there, since it was after the summer season, but they provided sumptuous meals for just the three of us. We had the restaurant to ourselves. Breakfast in the morning was a treat, with cafe latte, and homemade pastries. The weather was too cold to make use of the pool, which had been one of the main attractions for us.
We had to make arrangements each time we wanted to access their wifi.
The hosts were gracious, tried to make us feel at home, and even washed our dirty clothes for us.
I would have to say that my overall feeling about this location is isolation. I know that some people search this out, but this is not what we had in mind.
Very friendly welcome, swimming pool in front of the Toscny landscapes / bella villa in stones
Merci pour vos suggestions sont précieux pour moi.
Posto bellissimo, pulito, ordinato e tranquillo. Host simpatici e disponibili.
Tutto Ok! Ve lo consiglio davvero!!!
Grazie a presto
Describe Your Experience
We were greeted at the train station by the very kind and friendly Eduardo who guided us to the location up on the hill. It was quite a beautiful home. We had a lovely stay here overall! There were so many other families passing through at the same time and this made it quite fun and lively. Even when the swimming pool got quite full we had a lot of fun making up games together and having lots of laughs!
We ate one meal at the house which was quite delicious! They fried a wonderful selection of items from fresh basil, to zucchini flowers, zucchini, and much more - we highly recommend this if you get the chance. Meals can be a bit pricey though so be sure to ask carefully ahead of time about pricing and what is included. On another night we were able to bbq at the house. There are many lovely seating areas on the various sides of the house and near the pool.
We were initially in a room that ended up being a bit small for us (the extra beds were a bit small and the kids wanted more privacy instead of being in the same room as the kitchen/dining area) and the hosts were thankfully able to accommodate us and put us in a larger suite. During our nine day stay we were in two separate suites, first were up on the spacious top floor with large, quiet rooms and nice bathroom, and then later on we were downstairs in a smaller, but quite nice 2 bedroom suite with a kitchen (with a refrigerator) and nice bathroom. The front bedroom was a bit more noisy as it lies just at the bottom of the stairs and many guests pass by without realizing your sleeping room is just nearby. Nevertheless, we did okay with this.
The only real drawback is the wifi. We always select locations based upon the ability to access wifi as we like to make travel plans as we go along - perhaps research a museum or city to see the next day, or find a restaurant, or book other airbnb locations. We also need to keep in contact with our job/business back home, and this is also how we access our forwarded calls. But, unfortunately, the wifi was simply not sufficient for the number of guests staying at the house. The wifi seems to be only useable by one person at time! One way we dealt with this was to go into town each day to check our email and quickly read news, but there was not enough time for much else (planning/booking anything) and this dampened our visit a bit. Nevertheless, we took the tips of some of our fellow travelers and made a spontaneous visit to Assisi which was wonderful. Many of the guests also did this so for this we were also grateful for our very friendly companions and their great ideas!
We were greeted by (I think) Alessandro's brother at the train station because we could not find the location on our own with our GPS. When we arrived, the property was very beautiful, just as the photos showed. We were given a tour around the estate. We swam later that evening and our kids were happy to play with the proprietors' kids. We had a lovely dinner on the front patio of pasta, salad, meatloaf, roasted potatoes and vino rosso. The area was very quiet and starlit through the night; we slept well. There was no refrigerator in the "apartment" and I could not get the stove to work to make coffee in the morning.
Hello I'm sorry for the coffee machine.
Assolutamente consigliato.
Grazie mille Floriana...a presto.
Een echt aanrader!!! We hebben super genoten en het was picco bello in orde, ik raad het zeker iedereen aan die in umbrie zijn vakantie wil doorbrengen. Wij komen zeker nog is terug.
Thanks a lot
