Our normal check in time is 4 pm, and check out time 12 noon. A four hour window between guests is fairly standard, and absolutely necessary in order to prepare the cottage for the next guest, as we want to make sure it is spotless. Tammie chose to arrive later, and leave earlier, which is of course her prerogative.
The cottage does share a backyard, and we always make a concerted effort not to disturb our guests. However, we did not know exactly when she would arrive, and happened to be in the yard when she did.
The price per night is perfectly in line with the pricing of similar lodgings in the area. Tammie originally booked for just herself (at a lower rate), and then unexpectedly showed up with a friend, resulting in a higher rate.
Diane called twice, 2 minutes apart, and left one 10 second message saying she could not find the cottage. I did not see that she had called until one hour later as we were having our family dinner and then occupied with children and homework. By the time I received her very short message she had arrived. We are sorry that she had trouble finding our cottage, but once she arrived we did not wish to disturb her (a practice we make clear to all our guests in a welcome letter when they arrive). She did not attempt to contact us again at any time during her stay, which we always take as a sign that all is well!
Comfort of beds is a very personal preference, and while the occasional guest has commented on the pullout sofa bed (and who expects those to be super cozy!) we have had many, many guests over the years who have told us what a wonderful night's sleep they had.
We would be happy to have Diane return.
