We had a wonderful time at the Riad and were very well accommodated by Issam, who looked over the property. The pictures are an accurate representation of what is found in the rooms. The location is perfect - in the middle of the Medina, and close to the main amenities and hotspots (bab boujloud, Kerouine Mosques, Madrasas, tanneries, etc.) We highly recommend the Riad to travellers seeking a genuine perspective on the Moroccan lifestyle.
We had a nice stay at Dar El Menia. We never met Graham, but the manager was very nice and helpful. We stayed in the room on the top floor, which was huge and beautiful. Make sure you take them up on their offer to meet you at the Autopark. No matter how good you think you are at directions, the medina is super confusing when you first arrive.
Our stay at Dar El Menia was amazing! Graham arranged for us to be met at the bus station and had our bags brought to the Riad. He also arrange for the most amazing guide for us three girls to wander around Fes with. We had such a wonderful time. When one of our girls got sick he let us stay an extra night and was very hospitable in giving us directions to a pharmacy and arranging dinner for us in our room that night. I cannot say enough about our stay. If you choose one place in Fes... Go Here!
The pictures were accurate to how the apartment looked. It had a spacious living room for my party of 4.
Unfortunately, the WIFI wasn't working on the day we arrived but Graham was responsive to my email about it.
We liked the riad. It is located at the heart of Fes, the only inconveniant was that our room had low ceilings and one of my friends who was very tall had to bent over. Overall a really nice riad. Breakfast in the terrace was amazing and the place is lovely. It seem other rooms had higher celings, so if you plan to stay here make sure you have one o those.
Our stay at Dar El Menia was absolutely fabulous! The riad was so beautiful and was everything we were hoping for. Graham was really helpful and a lovely host. The location was great, we only got lost a couple times ;) The room was gorgeous and quite romantic, comfortable bed, great shower and overall the best room we had on our stay throughout Morocco. The roof terrace was lovely, which is where you have breakfast, though we missed out on this as we had to check out early. Overall a fabulous stay and only wish we could have stayed longer!
Thank you Graham!!
Graham's restoration Dar El Menia is exquisite, and the intricate details are fantastic. Breakfast on the terrace with the other guests every morning was a treat.
It's also just a short walk from the delicious and multi-cultural Cafe Clock, one of our favourite food stops in Morocco.
The riad can be a bit difficult to find on your own, even if you've braved a few medinas already, as we had. The medina of Fez is dizzying beyond all others, and I highly recommend you take Graham's advice and have someone meet you at Ain Azliten to take you in.
One other note: the room in which stayed (the one with 3 twin beds) has a rather low ceiling, and I imagine anyone taller than 5'9" might have some trouble.
I can picture Dar El Menia being an excellent place to rent out for an entire family, as the layout around the central courtyard really promotes a feeling of intimacy throughout the whole house.
Our experience was absolutely stunning. Everyone was helpful and so friendly. My friend Terry said it was exactly what she imagined, and as travelers, we all know that is not that common when booking online. Breakfast was delicious, the riad was very clean and once we got our bearings, coming and going was very relaxed. We all had keys, and the other guests were friendly and respectful.
We stayed at Dar el Menia (Graham's house) for 3 nights in the beginning of may. We really loved Fes and the Riad of Graham was more then fantastic! Graham was very helpful throughout our stay and made us feel welcome and home.
Graham gave us some great tips about Fes, where to eat and arranged an airport-pickup and drop-off for 230 dh.
The Riad made is very "Moroccish" and the breakfast every morning on the roof terrace was a nice start of the day!
Everything in Graham's house was very clean and the nice bed was excellent after a long day walking in the Medina.
The location of the house is the best you can get; one minute walk from the "big" main street (Talaa Kebira) in the Medina and halfway between the places to be in the Medina, Place Boujloud and Place Dar Seffarine (where the big Mosque is)..
All that makes Dar el Menia a great place to stay and we would definitely recommend Graham's house for those who want to go to Fes!
Very nice guest!!!
I've known Graham for several years, first meeting him in the Fes Medina. He's a very relaxed, and worldly bloke who loves a beer and a yarn. His guesthouse in the medina is a true gem. For a dar (a home not quite as large as a riad) it is one of the finest I've seen, with such amazing craftsmanship and attention to detail, you'll spend a few hours every day just checking out its features. Graham's hosting style is very laid back and casual. A guest is treated like a friend in the house and he's always happy hang about for a chat and share some insider advice, and some great travel stories. I couldn't recommend highly enough!
