This is a great location on the North Beach area of DR. The photos are mostly accurate, except the sunset from the condo and the evening view, which looks more like the sunrise and the morning that we experienced. We went to the beach for the sunset, which we enjoyed more anyhow.
We went looking for a place that was more private than the town hotels, and this was perfect. The beach is super clean and deserted -- virtually nobody but the residents use this area of beach, except for a few fishermen who fish in the morning from the shoals (fun to watch). There is a surf school right next door which is amazing if that is what you want to learn or do. It's about $40 per day for a lesson and a board. The waves here are pretty intense and you must be VERY careful when choosing a swimming spot. We opted to keep to the shallows with our feet on the ground so as not risk the undertow. Even so, I lost my scuba mask in a large wave when boogie boarding. My fault of course but just fair warning for you.
The best part about this spot is that it is fully equipped. The wifi was strong and stable. There is a ceramic water filter, and most things you will need to cook are here. Alex, the fixer/manager is very nice and quick to respond. He was fixing up the AC when we arrived (which we promptly turned off due to the amazing ocean breezes here) and was back within an hour to check the taps when our water pressure was low. It turns out that the water utility has a hard time pumping water into the resort during low water times, and being the last unit on the third floor meant that if the power went off or the utility wasn't pumping, our water pressure dropped or went off completely. The resort is digging a cistern now which should resolve this issue in the future. Talk to David to see how things have progressed.
For cooking, bring anything that you will need to add flavours - spices, salt, pepper, olive oil -- any non produce items as it is a waste to buy a jar of cinnamon or dried basil for a week's stay, then have to pack it back or leave behind.
The best part for us was the 30 minutes morning beach walk westward to the daily Yoga classes at Natura Cabanas, the wonderful breezes, Arsenio's (the restaurant), the privacy from the typical beach vendors, and the general relaxed vibe. Highly recommended if a self-contained, self-catered beach holiday is what you're after!
