I am a filmmaker and screenwriter, interested in visual arts and all that jazz, and have lived in London all my life.
I really enjoyed my stay at Tess' cozy apartment in central London! The apartment is just the same as you can see on the photos - it felt like a second home away from home! I stayed for a couple of weeks and Tess is just amazing - she is a very friendly, kind and cooperative person that helps you when you have any questions. I loved my time at her flat and already miss the chats with Tess and the comfortable mattress - I really recommend going there and would love to come back!!!
I really enjoyed my ten day stay at Tessa's place. Tessa is a fantastic host - very easy to talk to and does a great job of making you feel at home in the bustling metropolis of London. She is a very keen observer of people, history, popular culture, etc. and has a great sense of humor about all of those things. The apartment is tucked away on a quiet side street in the Barbican - very close to a Waitrose, some good kebab/doner places and a 15-20 minute walk from Brick Lane/Spitalfields markets. It's a charming flat and the room was smartly appointed, so I had plenty of space for all of my things. I quickly settled into a sunset ritual of biscuits and tea while watching Antiques Roadshow on BBC One, which I found to be an acceptable way to mourn the premature loss of sunlight at 4:15pm. For the more adventurous, there are a number of nice pubs nearby to get a pint. I highly recommend Tessa's spot as a home base in London!
We had an excellent stay. The appartment was very nice and well located. And Tessa is a wonderful host (she even helped us with tips about good restaurants, places to see, exhibitions, ...). You can book her flat without hesitation !
My second stay with Tess was as lovely as the first one.
Thank you so much Tess for opening your place for this possibility!
I enjoyed it even more, since it was like visiting an old friend and everything in the apartment was already familiar and had the same great quality as before, plus the discovery of the "apparatus" for indulging in morning lattes.
Tess has a true talent for hosting, but also a great personality for it. She is a very happy person and it is a pleasure to have someone like her for a host, whose smile lights up the room when you come back to your "home" in London. She also surprised me with a book from her library that I could not resist reading, even though all of London was waiting to be discovered! I am full of gratitude for meeting her,
I really recommend this place! Tessa is amazing, helped me everytime I've needed. When I come back to London I'd like to stay in her house again. Thank you Tessa!
I stayed at Tessa's for a few weeks. Although the room is not big, it was for me the perfect place to stay: central, quiet, non smoking and clean. Tessa is great, she will ALWAYS find a solution to your problem, or an answer to your question. Cherry on the cake: she is a very interesting person. To make it short, I just loved her and her place. :-*.
So you please go to her place, ok, but do leave it free for when I'll have to go back ;-). All the best and enjoy your stay!
Tess is a wonderful woman! I loved staying in her lovely flat. And you will too! Room: comfortable bed, perfect room for 1 person, artistic and fun. Pillows are sooooo good! Flat: 5th floor walk up (good cardio) in a great location! Well thought out flat. Ability to do laundry was a major bonus! This artistic residence made me feel very relaxed and inspired creativity! Area: Close to tube and bus routes. Weekday lunch market a block away was excellent! Quiet area of London on the weekends which allows you to really rest. Host: Tess is a doll! Helpful, personable, kind. I hope to stay here again!
Tess' accommodation was perfect. The location is unbeatable and the room was clean and comfortable. I would recommend Tess to anyone looking to stay in London, but especially to writers and academics who like a tranquil place to unwind and collect themselves.
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay with Tessa. From the moment I walked into her place it felt as if I was visiting a friend. She is a warm, conscientious and intelligent hostess and I wished we were both less busy and I could stay longer to get to know her better.
I loved the way she hosted me, providing the best in the most important areas, especially the thick, fresh and fuzzy towels and great quality bedding that felt so cosy and I will always remember the gentle breeze with the vanilla smell of petunias outside the bedroom window.
The area around her apartment is great for food. I had real (buttery) french croissants in the morning from a french patisserie and picnic in the nearby park with the locals, eating a fantastic huge and very fresh salad and (yes) venison burger, all from the street market and very reasonably priced. I went for a great and free art exhibition to Barbican and enjoyed a coffee in an urban park inside the complex. I also explored this neighbourhood quite a bit, thank to Tessa's tips and found it very lively in a good way, with interesting mixture of old and new architecture and well designed urban spaces that locals use and enjoy.
Thank you Tessa, hopefully I will come again soon!
This was booked for my uncle and these reviews are for his stay. Typing for him, he says "his stay was excellent and that it would be difficult to find a better place, despite the fact that my room was five flights up...with no lift". Good excercise. My stay here was extremely well organized, much more than I would have expected.
Response from Tessa:
Can't take any credit for organisation, Derek - that was your wonderful nephew David! Glad you enjoyed yourself.. T
Tessa and her partner were charming, considerate guests who left their room immaculate!
I was very happy to have them hosted.
I stayed with Tess for a week in January 2012 (before she was on AirBNB - hence the reference instead of a review). She's an excellent hostess, very easy to talk with and she knows a lot about the area having lived here her whole life. The flat is very nice as well - the twin bed is quite comfortable and there's plenty of space to relax. The views are also very good. The location is outstanding with lots of big sites withing walking distance, and easy tube/bus access. The food market that pops up every weekday is great for lunch too. I'd definitely recommend Tess and her flat!
I got to know Tess through a friend during my first trip to London in December 2011. My boyfriend and I actually stayed with her at the apartment for 10 days and it was wonderful! Tess is a great person, warm and kind. And an excellent host at that. Before our arrival, she prepared an itinerary for us complete with directions and recommendations enough to occupy our stay! Feel free to ask her for tips and suggestions for things to do in London, she knows it all! (: The apartment itself is very cozy and quaint, plus you'll get a good workout twice a day! We had a great stay with Tess and we're sure you will too!
I have known Tessa for at least 12 years, and she has been and is a very loyal and trust worthy and good friend.I highly recommend Tessa, great personality and great to chat with. She has lived in London all her life so she is very informative about places and things to do in the big city.
