I'm a sustainability consultant for green building developments. Live part-time in Seattle and in a cottage on Lopez Island. Currently am working on a net zero energy affordable housing project on Lopez Island.
Am surprised by your review, Barbara. I do not feel that have misrepresented the condition of the house in my profile. Surely saddened that did not meet your expectations during her 8-day visit. I aim to provide the best possible place for a guest to relax and enjoy the island.
I have significant allergies myself, so am very careful about eliminating dust. I also do not allow pets in the house. In fact I hired an excellent cleaning person to do a 5-hour deep cleaning of my small house the day before Barbara arrived.
There are 8 operable windows in the house, 5 have screens. I've never experienced an excess of flies inside. Our marine climate and the fir trees around the house keep the house aft a comfortable temperature so often close windows, except for one in the loft, in the evening. Also due to the marine climate, we have very few mosquitoes and yellow jackets (most seasons). I find the furniture comfortable for reading - sofa, various types of chairs, and rocker. The approximately 5-inch hole in deck has been repaired. This is the first hole I've had in the deck in eight years and I sincerely apologized to the Barbara's partner for this.
I do love books but they're actually located in a limited area of the house - in two rather small book cases (downstairs and in the life), 7 cookbooks in the kitchen and books partially along the back wall in the loft. Believe there was adequate space for to hang clothes in the closets. Regarding the refrigerator, always leave milk, juice, condiments, jams, butter, cheese and typically fruit in the refrigerator for guests. Airbnb asks that we leave some food for guests - and this is the way I provide it. I tell guests that they may use anything in the kitchen they need for preparing meals. In any case, it's a good sized refrigerator and leave a good amount of space for guest's food.
Again, I am sorry, Barbara, that your expectations were not met for your vacation at my house. Perhaps more information and conversation between the guest and host at the beginning of the Airbnb renting process - before a reservation is made - would result in a better match for your needs.
Stefanie - Have to admit that have shown your review to a couple of friends. Just bragging about the wonderful Stefanie that keeps coming and gives such a super review. Next time surely we will meet personally! Most appreciated were your words about the "art" around the cottage. I really care about making a kind and loving interior environment - for my friends and my enjoyment.
