I spent a couple of wonderful days in Venice with my husband and Massimo's house was the perfect accommodation to welcome visitors: so typical and romantic!
The little house is part of the private court (in a garden) of an ancient building in Cannaregio, a north-west block in Venice, 5 minutes far from the train station and 15 minutes far from S.Marco square, so really well-located. We arrived in Venice by train very late Saturday night, Massimo was so kind to book a table for us in a typical restaurant close to the house (in Venice people are used to have dinner quite early). We spent the night eating excellent specialities as "baccalá alla vicentina" and "spaghetti alle vongole" for a very good price.
The day after Massimo was so kind to propose us a boat trip for free, a wonderful experience indeed! We first visited some canals on the sourroundings, appreciating Massimo's comments on architecture and history of Venice. After we arrived in Canal Grande, where the unbelieveable beauty of the City is full expressed: the "ponte di Rialto" and the landscape by sea are unique. Thank you Massimo! We strongly reccomend this accommodation to all who are looking for a complete immersion in another time, choosing a charming place as starting point to visit one of the most beautiful city in the world.
We had a wonderful time at Massimo’s house! The neighbourhood (Cannaregio) is one of my favourite ones within Venice, quieter and more authentic than other more touristy areas like Rialto or San Marco. It is also very convenient in terms of logistics, since it is just 5 minutes walking from the boat terminal that connects Venice to the airport, and 10 minutes from the Railway station. The house is very spacious and is perfect for a group of friends or family. Massimo also offered us to join in for a dinner, and to bring us around on his boat: we didn’t take the opportunity, as we had already full day plans for the weekend, but I’m sure it would have been a lovely experience. We also had the opportunity to leave our luggage in a storage room after checking out on the day of departure, and we found it a very convenient option, which allows to avoid the high price and long queues that you would find at the train station deposit. I hope Massimo was happy about our stay as well!
The apartment is spacious and the location is good. The host was very busy the day we arrived. Unfortunately we did not have good directions to his place. We sent him a text when getting off the train with no response and text again when we were lost again with no response even thought we had text in the past regarding the time we'd be there. We ended up looking up the phone number on airbnb and calling him. By this time it was closer to noon when we were supposed to drop our bags off at 11am. He was able to give us directions but was not at the apartment. He had had to leave to make another appointment and made a comment about us not being there at 11am as planned so he had left. I didn't understand why he hadn't responded to our texts or attempted to call or text himself before leaving. After leaving out bags we agreed to meet again at a later time to officially check in and our host was able to give us a boat tour which was really nice. The boat tour was excellent. The apartment was not very clean and it was obvious he was not prepared for us. We had to ask for toilet paper and were only give a couple bath towels with now hand towels. The shower drain clogged causing it to flood. The 2nd bathroom had a tub with a shower hose and no shower curtain. There were open tampons in the bathroom drawers and no garbage bags in the cans.
This was our most disappointing stay in Italy. The apartment was not ready even though we arrived late in the day. We spent more money on this place because we were looking forward to using the outdoor patio and garden. But it was unusable because of the leaf litter and rotten fruit. Massima said he would come and clean it, but he did not. He did not send directions as requested prior to arrival, making finding the place difficult. There was broken furniture. Host abrupt initially, and did not respond to subsequent texts and calls when we were there.
We have just returned from a super visit to Venice, staying in Massimo's lovely one bedroom appartment in Canareggio. The flat is modern and spacious. In addition to the bedroom (which has plenty of cupboard and hanging space ) there is a sofa bed in the lounge. The flat is on the first floor and there is a lovely view from the small terrace. Massimo offered as an extra service a transfer from the airport, first by car and then by boat, taking us right up to the entrance of his building... very convenient and a lovely experience.
Although Canareggio is a quieter area to central Venice, there was plenty of local activity with bars, restaurants and small shops; we really liked the area.
Massimo gave us plenty of recommendations about the area and Venice itself. He was a very considerate and helpful host, very much a gentleman.
This was our first experience of Airbnb and the opportunity to stay at Massimo's appartment made the experience a real success. Thank you.
