I'm from Barcelona and have to travel often for work so this is your chance to get the real Barcelona experience.
4 of us (2 couples) recently enjoyed just over a week in Carlos's apartment. This was my first time using AirBnB so I didn't really know what to expect but it couldn't have worked out better. The location of the apartment was perfect - it is around the corner (1 minute walk) from Plaza de Cataluyna, the Urquinona metro station is across the road - 2 stops to Barceloneta beach (10 min walk) and it's inbetween El Born / Raval. The apartment itself is great. It was lovely and bright, really nicely decorated, very comfortable, clean and the large terrace was great. Carlos was a great host, he gave us some excellent restaurant & bar recommendations and great advice on places to see / things to do during our time in Barcelona - and for our trip to Sitges afterwards too! We all loved our stay and would highly recommend this apartment.
I travelled to Barcelona and stayed at the "Terrace with views in city center" with my wife, our 3-year old son and our two sisters. So there were 4 adults who stayed for 6 nights in May 2013.
Carlos replied very soon and answered all our questions! He is very hospitable and communicative!
To be earnest - i was shocked when i entered into apartments. It smelled as if it was a very old house... and it was dusty as well... Well, that's because Carlos has some antique (pretty old) chairs, armchair and some other old stuff. But the smell gone away as we opened the windows for our good. It seams that Carlos doesn't live a lot in this apartment, and i suppose nobody lived there for the previous month. So that's why it was dusty, and i had to clean the floor. But, c'mon, folks! The price is really good and you do not pay a cleaning fee.
Although the towels and the bed linen were clean and prepared for our visit.
You get a really cool location - an awesome one! Near by Rambla and Plaça de Catalunya! Also not so far away from the sea - about 7-10 minutes walking. The flat is located on the top floor and has a nice terrace - you can see it on the picture.
So my disappointment turned in to a "well, it is not that bad indeed" and after all to a "Oh my, i wish i could buy this apartment and make it a BOMB!". Cuz i really liked the location and the size of it.
So the weak points are:
1. It may be a bit old-furnitured, and may have a smell of it
2. No hair-dryer!!!
3. No kettle (the girl who met us advised to boil the water for a tea in a cooking pot =( or to use a microwave)
4. Only one mirror in the bathroom
5. May be dusty
The strong points:
1. Great location!!!!!! In the center of Barcelona!
2. Apartments are pretty big. 3 rooms (one room is very small but still 1 person can live there) + dinning room + terrace + kitchen + bathroom.
3. Good wi-fi
4. Has almost everything you need for living! accept kettle and hairdryer of course;)
Anyway i find this apartments pretty attractive for unpretentious visitors and recommend it to those who would prefer to pay less and give up on a perfect comfort, but to get a pretty big apartment with a terrace, located in the center of Barcelona with a very communicative and nice host!
Carlos was an excellent host, and I was disappointed that we didn't get to meet in person - though we tried. He made every effort to make sure we had a comfortable stay in his apartment. He was also very helpful with advice about the neighborhood and our visit to Barcelona.
The apartment was clean and the bed was very comfortable - but not as quiet as we expected. During our stay the neighbors were a bit noisy. Not sure if this is normal - but made it difficult to fall asleep at night.
Overall, we enjoyed the apartment and the location.
Carlos was a very good host. We stayed in his apartment for 1 week during the Mobile World congress. One night me and my girlfriend even had dinner with him. He gave us lots of advice where to eat and what to see in Barcelona.
Nice neighbourhood, very quiet but still close to both grocery stores (200m) and metro. One funny thing is the slotcar club hosted a block near by. Go there to revive your childhood. =)
As the apartment is only 3 metro stations from Plaza Catalunya you can get to the tourist area very quick as well as staying in the more "spanish" area of Gracia.
Carlos couldn't have been nicer and more helpful arranging whatever we needed. He was even fine with us staying another night if we needed to last minute. His place has great light, a wonderful sitting area and in a great neighborhood. We used a few days of our trip to stay in a hotel closer to the center, and this was a great way to mix up the week. Gracia really is quiet and charming.
I've visited Barcelona a number of times, and it was a joy to stay outside the hectic tourist area and get to know a real neighborhood. Carlos's apartment is extremely comfortable and tidy, with high ceilings and attractive contemporary decor. We especially appreciated having a supermarket and a good fruit and vegetable store less than a block away and the lively Gracia plazas nearby. All and all a very relaxing place to come home to.
Carlos was an excellent host. Very charming and friendly and went to a lot of effort to make our stay in Barcelona an enjoyable and rewarding one.
Carlos' apartment is really lovely and in a great location in Gracia - easy to get around to lots of the interesting sites, but located in a nice quiet area.
Lovely quiet apartment. Very comfortable with everything we needed and a really attractive style. Carlos has been eager to help out and make sure our Barcelona experience is special.
Perfect Airbnb guests, easy going and friendly. Look forward to visiting them in Barcelona. Thank you.
