Hi! My name's Ash and I'm a well-travelled IT guy, heli pilot & musician who likes to meet locals in the places I visit. I used to work for the world's largest superyacht as chief computer & electronics specialist, which gave me a lot of travel opportunities and a lot of interesting tales! Originally from New Zealand, I lived in the UK for 9 years, Germany for a year, Spain for 2 years and then five or so years at sea working in the superyacht industry. Prior to superyachts I lived & worked in London in the IT, ISP/telecomms and dot-com sectors, for around 9 years.
I just spent a year in San Francisco studying electronic music production full-time - it was a dream I'd been wanting to chase for over 10 years and I'm so glad I did it!
I've been to over 30 countries in the last 5 years, and just returned from a temporary stint as IT Engineer on a 92-metre yacht in Indonesian waters. Typically when I travel to a new city I book a couple of nights in a hotel just to facilitate a soft landing, then I look for some accommodation that's going to allow me to connect more with people - AirBnB is really good for that, and I've had some great experiences that way.
