Hi, I'm Patrick. I own and live part time at Sabruna, Rawajati, Kalibata, Jakarta. I've tried to create an oasis of green and quiet in the middle of Jakarta.

The house is just as the pictures and other reviews describe- a unique opportunity to experience what I would consider a "dream home"- not in terms of out and out luxury, but in bringing a rural feeling to urban living it is hard to imagine anything better in Jakarta or any other major city. And it does have some pretty luxurious touches too- such as a warm shower down by the swimming pool, and the very lovely Mbak Isem to look after you. Plus you have a selection of street food vendors practically on your doorstep who can wrap food up for you to take home to eat on the balcony.
If you want to spend lots of time in the malls this is not the greatest of locations, but for spending a couple of days either before or after touching down, or for getting a feel of life beyond the central business district, you should not miss the opportunity to stay in this lovely house. Top tip, if you like fishing, there are literally hundreds of smaller catfish clearly visible in the river from the house plus I saw what looked like 3-4 foot monsters occasionally surfacing. I was kicking myself for not bringing along a rod and line...
It was very great to recover from our jetlags in Patrick's relaxing home. The room was enormous and spotless, as was the private bathroom. The natural pool (with view on the river!) is a huge plus and helps to cool down after a day browsing through Jakarta. The neighborhood is also great with lots of small roadside restaurants and the big shopping mall nearby for more advanced consumer needs. Patrick was super helpful communicating with us via Whatsapp and making sure everything was alright, and Mbak Isem was very friendly and caring.
Clean, friendly, spacious oasis in Jakarta! Highly recommended!
I have a pleasant stay on Sabruna house. It's amazing to see this kind of house in the middle of Jakarta. I enjoy the natural pond and swim there in the morning.
Mba Isem & Patrick's wife are so welcome and nice. There are a lot of interesting books there too in the room. It's a refreshing place in Jakarta.
I could not be more pleased with the home and the house manager who lives there. It's a beautifully laid out house in a thriving neighbourhood. I have never seen a pool like that, but it was quite clean! I would return, and owe a debt of gratitude to Patrick and Avi! dgs
Staying here was very relaxing. The balcony overlooking the Ciliwung river, the sound of the frogs and almost nightly sightings of a civet cat, a pool to cool down, swimming with the fish, easy access to the airport (early morning about 45 min), and a 5 min walk away the Pasar Minggu Baru train station and a big choice of street food. The room itself is spacious and beautiful with a green terrace full of orchids off it! Mbak Isem is really friendly and welcoming as are Patrick and Avi who are often here. Totally unlike the rest of Jakarta. Highly recommended!
I have stayed in many places in Jakarta but I was totally surprised by Sabruna. I did not know there were small oases like this in this chaotic metropolis. It was worth being there for the view over the Ciliwung River alone, even more so since the river was flooding. It is located away from the city centre and is a perfect place if you have to work at home, with limited need to travel. Basic necessities are nearby and Mbak Isem is wonderfully helpful. She is always around to answer questions and is there to let you in, an advantage over many airbnb places.
In January the house was amazingly cool with a fresh wind blowing off the river. The main bedroom on the upper level is huge with a comfortable bed. It has a grassy patio (on the second level) with orchids, papaya trees and grape vines. There is a long table on the veranda overlooking the river, on the lower level. This a perfect place for holding discussions or just reading. The owners obviously take great pride in the pleasant surroundings they have created. It is not a starred hotel but is thoroughly delightful and a great place to work or simply relax.
It's amazing to find a place so tranquil in such a chaotic city. The house is just as described in the posting and in other visitors' reviews - overlooks the river, charming and friendly neighborhood, clean and airy. I love how close the house is to some great little strips of food stalls that have some of the best Indonesian food I've tasted. Great balcony to enjoy warm nights with a cool glass of beer and a good book from the huge book collection. You can tell great people live here too – the house is inviting and well cared for. Isem, the house manager, is so kind and caring and made me feel so welcome. I'm looking forward to coming back!
In all the buzz and traffic of Jakarta, it’s almost unbelievable to find such a tranquil place to stay. With a balcony surrounded by trees and bamboo, a natural swimming pool with fish and frogs to keep you company, and Mbak Isem to welcome you, it’s all in all - perfect!
The area of Rawajati is also lovely with a vibrant traditional street market only a couple of minutes away. If you’re feeling like a calorific experience, I can recommend the martabak. Being a short easy walk from a train station, it’s also ideal for getting around the city. Many thanks Patrick and Avi, I’ll be back. x
This beautiful home in South Jakarta is the perfect combination of conveniently located and refreshingly secluded. You can drink your coffee on the back deck overlooking the river while watching birds and hop out for a quick bite of delicious street food or a walk to the mall or supermarket.
You'll never believe you are in the middle of Jakarta with the cool breeze and sounds of the urban jungle out your back window - in fact, this home is one of the best things I have found in Jakarta! There is a wonderfully refreshing eco-swimming pool in the back that you can take a dip in to wake up, cool off, or get some exercise - all things I find I desperately need in Jakarta!
Working from the back porch while sipping coffee and eating Indonesian breakfast curry is one of my favorite things to do in Jakarta. Wifi works well and it's easy to get much done in the relaxing environment.
Patrick and Avi - the owners of the home - and Mbak Isem - the house manager - are delightful hosts and fabulously interesting people. If you are lucky enough to visit while Patrick and Avi are in town, you could have the pleasure of discussing anything from how to build an eco-swimming pool to adventures in the world's great forests to how to cook truly exquisite Indonesian food.
I highly recommend Sabruna on your next visit to Jakarta!
