It's hard to imagine a better location in Cuenca--in the heart of the historic center; one block from the Mercado 10 de Agosto; three blocks from Goza, the gringo coffee hangout.
Manolo is a warm and generous host. He has the mind of a philosopher and the heart of an artist. The apartment is compact and cozy and as well planned as a sailing ship.
We couldn't have picked a better place (and host) in Cuenca. The studio is perfect and the original design of the place by Manolo himself was a fantastic addition to the experience. The garden, the little kitten from upstairs and our architecture chats with Manolo were very welcome bonuses too.
The location is perfect and access and privacy were also great. Manolo made us feel at home but left us enough space to feel we were in our on place. Highly recommended.
What to say? Well, we're going back for a second time! This is an unusual place, to say the least. It's a complete 1 BR/1 bath studio with the bed (nice) up a steep stairs. At first Manolo was not sure we should rent (being active, able-bodied seniors) whether we could negotiate those stairs. If you're careful, no problem.
Pros: great, quite location
Complete with EVERYTHING!
Quiet: you're 150' off the street, deep in the interior of some pretty old buildings. Hard to describe but you enter via a long hallway/aisle/corridor past a very pleasant Ecuadorian family to Manolo's private garden.
Clean, interesting and a taste of Ecuador.
The architect designed, thoughtful interior/exterior. Really a neat place!
Cons: those stairs are not for everyone - watch the 2nd from the top!
It's a bit tight for hosting any more than two other people. Two chairs for everyone, plus the bottom step plus the bench on the wall.
The location may or may not be for everyone: Calle Larga is super busy.
You will want to stay with Manolo at his cute as a button bnb because it will be something to tell your friends about. Manolo is a great host and he will take care of you. His tiny rental unit is accessed from a busy downtown street through a nondescript steel door. You then walk 75 paces through a dark medieval tunnel to the back of the 300 foot building passing many doors and the courtyard of another family, before entering Manolo's courtyard. He has designed his space to be very interesting and the little rental unit has a loft, beauty bathroom and tiny kitchen. Just take your time on the circular stairs from the loft as they are not the best in the dark with a full bladder. The location is close to everything. Thanks Manolo!
Gracias, Manolo!!
A hidden gem in the heart of Cuenca's historic center and close the the Mercado. The location couldn't be more ideal. It is an fun and quirky place that met all of our needs. The internet connection was one of the best in all of our extensive travels throughout South America. The shower pressure was the best on the planet and the hot water plentiful.
Out host Manolo, an artist architect and delightful eccentric is the creator of this most unusual lodging. Meeting him and getting to tour his is own unique apartment was a highlight of our visit to Cuneca. We had planned to stay for only one week but liked it so much that we extended our stay. Highly
Generous words of Barbara and David, warm people Cuenca received with joy. They are travelers who greets the world with nostalgia.
Incredible loft, just like it shows in the pictures. Manolo was extremely helpful, he waited for us even though we arrived 2 hours late and helped us with parking and other things we needed. He's also an incredible artist and I really appreciated the talks we had. This was my first experience with Airbnb and it couldn't have been better.
We had a fantastic stay! Manolo was just wonderful - so helpful and really lovely. This place is a wonderful spot in beautiful Cuenca - has everything you need, right in the centre but still very quiet. We loved it. This place is excellent if you want somewhere with facilities and are happy with slightly compact living! It is bigger than it looks on the website and was just perfect for us - we stayed 2 weeks. Cuenca was a great place to base ourselves - we loved the city and feel so lucky that we found Manolo's lovely little place. Thank you for everything Manolo!
Manolo's suite in Cuenca is a real find! It's complete with everything you'd need, a bit funky in an artistic way, and fun. Pros include:
1. Manolo--a delightful architect with strong convictions about living a simple, sustainable lifestyle.
2. Location--literally within steps of the big market, a small supermarket, laundry, and buses. The central location meant we didn't waste time traveling.
3. Abundant HOT water--uncommon in Ecuador.
4. Very quiet in spite of being right downtown, because it is set far back from the street. Only the sound of the river lulled us to sleep at night.
The only Con may be the steep 8 steps leading up to the loft, with its double bed and small closet. But we're in our seventies and found it only a minor inconvenience. Anyone younger should find it no challenge!
In short, we loved our stay and wouldn't hesitate to recommend Manolo's suite.
Hôte très agréable et disponible.
Joli studio bien aménagé et équipé en plein centre de Cuenca.
A recommander +++
Emma and Francis, are the guests with Ecuador wants to count you, that my country needs, and friendly tourists who understand the ways of being of other cultures.
Thank you very much for choosing my suite.
Antonio.
