We felt very welcome and well taken care of. We only stayed for one night but the place is beautiful, clean, and in a great location. But besides all of the usual airbnb stuff about a great hosting situation, staying at Xenia is truly unique. It is like temporarily living in an art gallery where you interact with and in some ways become a part of the art. Thank you for coming up with such a creative way to inspire visitors to Seattle. Also, did I say ROOF DECK?
I had an extraordinary time staying at Xenia and also getting to know Rob, with whom I talked at length about the art and the space. Each visit is unique, though all are likely to be restorative and even inspiring. This is wonderful space to work as well as play. I did both. The location is beautiful, a few blocks from the water in a tawny but friendly neighborhood of Eastlake, which seemed removed from the colonization of adjacent neighborhoods by (website hidden). Every necessity in the spacious and quiet apartment is provided for and, when possible, has been designed by an artist to enhance or compliment or fulfill the experience of viewing and interacting with the other works on hand. The artworks, by the way, are terrific. Visitors particularly interested in the project might look at Norman Bryson's book about still life representation, an in particular his gloss on the concept of "Xenia," a Greek word that refers to aesthetic representations of hospitality in European antiquity.
Having the opportunity to stay in this space was an absolute delight and privilege. This brightly lit apartment is the perfect combination of comfortable as well as interesting and unique. In fact, my partner and I found staying here one of the more memorable experiences we had while visiting Seattle.
While I wasn't terribly familiar with the location (East Lake) before, I can now say it is probably one of my favorite neighborhoods. It's beautiful, quiet, close to several bus lines, and there are plenty of things to explore within walking distance. Although I-5 is only a handful of blocks from the building, you really can't hear the highway once you're inside. Much to our surprise, we found we could hear the morning birds chirping much more clearly than the highway!
Lastly, our host Rob was nothing but accommodating and thoughtful. He made sure we had everything we could need while staying there and then some! Plus, he was able to house us on fairly short notice due to our last host having to cancel on us.
We truly couldn't have asked for a better first experience staying at an Airbnb space. If you're looking for a place that'll provide more than just a bed to crash on at the end of the night, I highly suggest you try to book this space!
We really enjoyed hosting Robert and Alison as they were incredibly friendly, concientious and impeccable guests! We wish that this pair could have stayed longer - we would love to host them again. Highly recommended!
Robert was a very pleasant guest, easy to converse with, and quite clean and thoughtful. Five stars :)
I was very lucky to host Robert &Alison, two lovely guests: friendly, easy going and extremely clean and respectful of the house and its rules. I think any host would be as happy as me... Thank you for coming!!!
Very lovely couple! Very clean and kind! I hope to meet soon!
