Harvey and Arda's place is the perfect weekend getaway from New York City. The apartment itself has everything you'd need for your stay, it was stocked fresh towels, and was filled with groceries for breakfast and snacks.
The bedroom was very well kept, and got super dark at night, allowing for an excellent night's sleep.
We weren't there for pool weather, but the outdoor space is great, and has a lovely view out on to the reservoir.
Make sure to spend some time chatting with Harvey as he's got a million great stories.
Harvey and Arta were truly great hosts. My girlfriend and I wanted to avoid renting a car so Arta offered to pick us up from the train station (and even gave us a little tour of the town!). When we arrived at the house we were given a full tour of downstairs, stocked with all the amenities you could need, along with a fridge filled with food for breakfast! The yard and surrounding area are absolutely gorgeous with trails galore.
During our weekend stay, Harvey and Arta let us use their mountain bikes and ride all over the place, which included a nice ride over the dam and into town. We even joined them for a glass of wine on the second night and got to hear some of Harvey's short stories he wrote (definitely recommend asking him :).
All and all our stay was perfect. Very cozy, easy access to everything in the area via bike, and if we were too tired to bike, Arta offered to drive. Highly recommended to anyone looking for a relaxing weekend and some outdoor fun.
Harvey and Arta were wonderful hosts. I stayed at their place for 9 weeks and it was great. They invited me up for wine and occasional dinners. The food and conversation were both enjoyable. Harvey is a great story teller. They made my dog and I feel welcome. They gave me many tips on places to visit and walk/run with my dog. The area has lots of hiking trails which, unfortunately, were snow covered for most of my visit. The center of Croton is quaint and has a homey feel. The Black Cow coffee shop is a must on the list to experience. My husband drove up from Philly several times and the closeness to the train station made trips into NYC easy. I hope to visit and stay with them the next time I come down. I will definitely keep in contact with these two wonderful people!
Harvey and Arda were very welcoming and accommodating during our stay. My husband and I needed a temporary place to live before we could move into our new house in the area and this apartment worked perfectly. Since we are new to the area, Harvey and Arda gave us a lot of helpful information about the neighborhood and helped to make our transition from the city easier.
The apartment is close to the train if you are commuting to the city and it is also a quiet, peaceful place to come to just relax and decompress. We really enjoyed our walks around the neighborhood - the picturesque Croton Reservoir is just a short walk away.
Great location , very cosy , clean . Harvey let us a nice bottle of wine which was pretty fantastic ! We had a fabulous and relaxing time over there and we will be back for sure ! I highly recommend this place for a weekend away from the city
Harvey was a great host. Picked us up at the train station, showed us around and stopped by for some conversation during the weekend. Dropped us back at Croton Harmon late on Sunday afternoon. Could not have been easier for us. Would be happy to return.
Andrew and Sarah.
Having grown up in Croton but with family no longer living there this was the perfect place to spend the weekend during my high school reunion. I was right at home. The home, yard, pool....the whole area is so lovely. The stocked fridge was so welcome after arriving late at night and the swim in the pool was wonderful.
Next time I come I'll be sure to make time for happy hour. I loved connecting with Harvey & Arda, who are wonderful hosts, and would truly enjoy spending some more time together.
Who says you can't go home again?!
My girlfriend and I recently spent the weekend at Harvey Hutter's lovely home. The Hutter's are wonderful hosts, who thought of everything, down to the littlest detail: they welcomed us personally upon our late-ish arrival friday night; they provided a delicious bottle of wine; the kitchen and fridge were well-stocked, as was the bathroom; we used the washer / dryer; I was able to borrow a bicycle... The guest suite is very private, with it's own entrance. The bed is extremely comfortable, and we slept wonderfully. Ceiling height could be something of an issue should guests be very tall, but this wasn't a problem for us, but spurred us to take advantage of the beautiful outdoor area. Speaking of which: the pool is lovely, and we thoroughly enjoyed just lounging around. We came to Croton-on-Hudson seeking rest and relaxation and that's exactly what we got, in a peaceful and luscious setting. We had a little trouble with the wifi, but never bothered to mention it to our hosts (who doubtless would have addressed it) because we were quite happy to disconnect. Why surf the internet when you can watch deer nibble foliage just feet away? We also explored the surrounding area, including several long bike rides around the lake and the woods, and a visit to the dam. Our original plan was to visit DIA:Beacon, but the sunshine and the pool were just too relaxing to leave. We did, however, enjoy a great meal at the local Ocean House. Our final goodbye to the weekend could not have been better spent: a last minute, lucky, and truly luxurious meal at Blue Hill at Stone Barns. Wow.
Great escape. Exactly as described. Very private and in great area for hiking, walking, biking, and relaxing. We can't wait to go back. It was great to have the fridge stocked with some food and a bottle of wine when we arrived. We rented a car which made it easy to explore all the great things so close by but we also walked to the Croton dam and aqueduct trail, and we just enjoyed lounging by the pool and grilling dinner. Why share a pool at a hotel when you can basically have this to yourself? Hosts are lovely and around if you need them.
Harvey's place is very nice and quiet. It is the perfect place for a working couple to relax and enjoy a peaceful weekend. Plus, the beautiful Croton dam is right near by. Harvey and Arda are very hospitable. Overall, we felt this is a great choice, and we will definitely go back sometime.
