The description of the apartment was completely accurate. It is a lovely one bed apartment with sofa beds in the living room that could accommodate further two people, and it had two bathrooms and air-con. The balcony is at the back and overlooks well maintained gardens and a pond. The location has it's good and bad points. Good: you are 5min walk from an amazing beach, it is quite, tranquil, ducks and birds in the garden, no party noises. The bad thing is it is about 20 min walk from the Bavaro plaza where the shops and cafes are, and in the heat of the day 20 min feels a lot longer. However this should not be the end of it all as you can get a motor taxi, for 5 us dollars, or if you have basic Spanish, order the groceries on the phone and they will deliver. Fei the host met me at the airport and took me to the shop the day I arrived and also sorted out the internet which worked fast and well. The apartment has plenty of storage, a TV with lots of channels, hot water all the time, well stocked kitchen for cooking. The swimming pool area was barely used by anybody including me as the beach was close by, but it is there for the kids if needed.
So if you plan on renting a car, this is the perfect apartment. If not, this is still a good place, just factor in a bit of cash for the taxi for shopping if you don't speak Spanish. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here and plan on coming back for a longer holiday, as for me, the location and tranquility of this apartment was what I wanted.
Thank you very much for your review, I'm glad you enjoyed the apartment and the location, is a quite place, to disconnect or connect with yourself, who knows?
I take note about the bed matress!
Best wishes and see you soon.
We had a great time. Communication with Marc was easy and consistent. Fei was extremely helpful and nice showing us around and helping with things we needed.
We had a problem with the wifi not working during our stay.
Thank you Crystal for your lines, it was a pleasure to be your host.
The Wifi working properly again, we have changed the router.
Bes t wishes for the 2015.
We had a wonderful stay! The Apartment is very close too the beach, it's a 3 min walk. The supermarket is a little far away, but you can take the Motortaxi or taxi.
The beach and sea are amazing and we really enjoyed the stay.
If you want action or night life, there is not very much around. The closes bars can you reach by Motortaxi as well or it is 15 min walk.
We didn't go in a bar or disco.
There is no beach bar or restaurant at the beach, but if you need something like water or sweet / salty things you can buy it at the hotel mini markets.
Unfortunately there is no fresh fruit shop around the apartment.
The Hosts in the Dominican are Fei and Arcadi. Both are wonderful persons with a big heart! They picked us up from the airport and they took very good care of us! They are the best!
What would be a big help, would be a little map for us, the tourist.
That shows the supermarkets and the way to the beach or which bar/disco/ restaurants are good and what are the rates for the taxi and motortaxi.
Have a good trip!
We stayed here for 5 days in February 2014. Overall, it was a good experience, though a touch frustrating because a few things didn't work. The apartment is very close to the beach (4-5 minute walk: take a right out the front door and walk past the Princess resort. Even though it says "private" as you pass the Arena Gorda condos, you can keep walking!). It was nice to be close to a beach front that was not monitored by officials from a big resort who kick you out for using their chairs. If you take a left on the beach and walk about 5-10 minutes; you will find a series of little shops and a bar (nice to know if you want a beer and aren't in a resort). We were also close to the Supermercado Iberia: short taxi ride or 3 mile walk, which we did there and taxi'ed on the way home.
The apartment itself was comfortable and nicely decorated; the patio out back is lovely! We arrived to some bottled water, fruit and some food in the fridge. A few things didn't work - toaster, cable tv, and, for part of one day, the wireless. A text to Marc addressed the wireless, but the cable couldn't be fixed during our stay. Wireless was nice and fast when it worked! There is no house phone, so make other communication arrangements or get an international plan. We hopped into the condo pool once, and found it clean and warm (though given the beauty of the beach, we found we didn't use the pool more than that). The area around the condo is quiet - nothing in terms of restaurants or stores nearby, so keep that in mind. If you are looking for a lively time, not your place; but we found it nice and quiet and restful. Another thing we didn't realize before going: the all-inclusives are monitored at the front gate, so you cannot walk up and pay to use their bars or restaurants. A few small enhancements would make this place ideal: there were some dirty dishes in the cupboards. We could'n't find a street number or name for the development, so it was hard to communicate where we were to taxi drivers. Finally, a few more advance details provided to guest about where groceries/restaurants are, how to get to the beach, would be very helpful!
We had a wonderful stay at Marc's apartment. Fey was helpful and made the stay easy. The only negatives were that the water went out twice and the wifi didn't work. Fey helped with the wifi but really you just shouldn't plan to have it until things get straightened out with the company. Quiet, clean, well equipped. We had a great time and I wish I was still there.
the flat is very beautifull. It was better that we expect: luxurious , modern and beautifull decoration. More than that it s very quiet and peacefull, for relaxing qnd enjoying is perfect. the surounding are very nice too. it s very close to a beautifull beach. You can go shopping with taxi moto, it s not expensive. It s was perfect! Frey is very nice and helpfull. I strongly recommand this adress!
Ocean Blue is the part of Bavaro that didn't survive the financial crisis. I think. Or maybe it's killed by the All inclusive concept next door. It's bare and has a isolated feeling to it. Most of the apartments are for sale, no one's around. We experienced a lot of out of order in the luxurious apartment, but both Marc and Fei were very kind and helpful and sweet. The Bavaro-area is very touristic and expensive compared to other parts of the Dominican Republic. There are a lot of american people and american stuff. But not so much Dominican culture. The beach is private for miles.
But of course the ocean is absolutely amazing, and if you have the nerve you'll go and get a free pina colada in the resort that killed all other life.
Be careful swimming in the apartments pool, you might catch an infection. (my son did)
What a great place! We LOVED the villa. There was fresh fruit, juices, sodas and sandwich makings in the fridge upon arrival. This was nice because we didn't have a means of transportation and the store is about a 20-25 minute walk away. That being said the walk isn't bad and we made it everyday. We LOVED this Lebanese restaurant called Alries and ate there 4 times during our 1 week stay. The near by beach is so nice and less then a 10 minute walk away. When leaving the apartment head to your right towards the princess resort, they'll let you in the to get access to the beach. Our wonderful, host Fey, is beautiful inside and out. Be kind to her. She couldn't have possibly been more helpful and sweet. I really was pleased to have stayed here. Some other reviews for Bavaro apartments spoke on being too near noisy clubs. While walking passed some of the clubs all we could think was "we're so happy our place is in a QUIET and SAFE area". It was truly a treat. We would most definitely stay again. Oh yeah, and don't forget to go to the casino down the road. We liked that a bunch too ;0)
