Beautifully kept home in gorgeous part of Michigan. We spent a week there and felt at home rain or shine.
My wife and I had an awesome stay at Todd's home in Empire! The house was cozy and comfortable despite the cool weather during our visit this January. The in-floor radiant heat felt great on our feet. The house has a number of cool architectural features that somehow made it feel rustic and contemporary at the same time.
In addition to having one of the best beaches in the country, Empire is a great launchpad to the rest of the of NW Michigan. We made several easy day-trips to Leland, Traverse City, Glen Arbor, etc.
We plan to stay here again the next time we visit, which couldn't be soon enough.
Had a wonderful experience in Empire. Todd was extremely helpful.
He was there to greet us and show us around when we arrived and answered any questions we had throughout our stay quickly via text.
The house itself is exactly as pictured. Very lovely and clean. Located incredibly close to trailheads.
We had a great experience in Empire! Todd was incredibly welcoming and very responsive leading up to and during our trip. We visited during the off-season, so while the area was fairly "sleepy," it was a perfect retreat. The house was well-suited for rest and relaxation with a great open/well-stocked kitchen and plenty of space.
Todd made everything easy from the get-go. He was super fast in responding, kind and courteous, and consistently helpful from our first contact until we left his place. We checked in rather late because of bad travel conditions; he still met us in person with a smile and a freshly-brewed pot of coffee waiting. The perfect host. He should give lessons. Almost wish we lived closer; we would've loved to have grabbed dinner with him and his wife!
Their home is wonderful - the photos only show part of its beauty. Awesome real wood "countertop" in the kitchen, comfy and stylish furniture, radiant heat flooring, comfy beds, and a great TV and sectional couch in the basement. We loved it so much that we never left the house before 3:30pm! Super comfy and enjoyable.
The only random note: due to the green/eco construction of the home, noise seemed to travel a bit more from floor to floor than traditional houses. One person in our group was an uncommonly and exceedingly light sleeper and didn't catch as many zzzz's as the rest of us because of it. If you're the rare kind of person who wakes up with every little creak or sniffle, still come, just maybe bring some earplugs.
Overall we loved it and wish we could've stayed longer. Thanks for everything, Todd!
Todd was a great host. This was our first experience with Airbnb and we couldn't have been happier. The Lucky Pig would be ideal for a Lake Michigan summer vacation but we found it was very cozy for a late fall getaway. Empire was easy drive to both Traverse City and area wineries.
We were welcomed warmly by our hostess, with a few suggestions of where to dine in the area.
The houses décor was delightful and the heated floor was a pleasant surprise.
A quiet and neat neighborhood was enjoyable.
We walked several hikes in the area, enjoying Sleeping Bear Dunes and the fall colors.
Thank you for a cozy place to put our feet up and relax!
The Lucky Pig was the perfect home base for our family of 4 when we visited Sleeping Bear National Park and the surrounding area. Todd and Sandy were great hosts - good communication, prompt with their responses, and easy going. The house was very clean and well kept. We had everything in the house that we needed and more - full size fridge, dishwasher, gas stove, coffee maker, toaster, nice shower, comfy couches, and soft beds. We also used the outside fire pit for marshmallow roasting and story telling. My boys (7 & 9) had lots of space to play inside and out. If you have kids, don't miss out on the Junior Ranger Program run by the National Park Service. Visit the Ranger Station (across the street) at the beginning of your stay. You can also purchase park passes there. Our stay was the second week of October and the weather was beautiful! Sunny and cool. All the fall colors were out. We hiked the dunes, went biking on the beautiful bike path that travels up the park, spent time on the beach, visited Glen Arbor, and went to Heritage Day at the Empire town museum. The kids learned to saw a log the old way, made apple cider by hand cranking the press, and went into the old school house to see what school was like at the turn of century. The Lucky Pig & Sleeping Bear made an awesome family getaway! I hope we can make it back sometime.
We're in a pickle. If we tell you how utterly wonderful Todd and his cottage are, then you might decide to rent it on a weekend when we want to go. But, since we are not selfish people and like to share . . . This cottage is perfect. You know those magazine articles you read about vacation homes you dream of? Well this is that place. And Todd is an ideal host - Kind, communicative, and just an all around good guy.
Communication with Todd was easy and accurate. The house was clean and well kept in a charming little neighborhood close to every thing we cared to do. Next time we will stay longer, but we would most certainly return.
Todd was a great guest to host. Good communication, friendly, quiet and tidy. Highly recommend as a guest. A great addition to the airbnb community.
Very enjoyable. Todd is friendly, pleasant and leaves the room and bathroom area clean every time. We look forward to having him stay with us again.
Todd was a great guest....easy to communicate with, friendly and respectful of our property. We hope to see him again when he travels to Atlanta. We highly recommend him as a guest!
Pleased to say that Todd was an ideal guest...very pleasant and treated our rental property as he would his own. We will certainly welcome Todd in future visits!
