This was a negative experience and I would not recommend this accommodation.
On the plus side, it was a lovely home with a bus stop a few steps away; a full-size refrigerator and washer/dryer availability. I knew the host would not be available but she had been very helpful in preliminary emails, and left good "getting inside" instructions as well as contact details for a surrogate host (her son).
But on the negative side, the following amenities were included on the listing but not available or usable:
Internet/Wi-Fi: I didn't even consider locations that did not include internet service so this was a major problem. When we contacted the son, he informed us that the home no longer had internet service.
Heat: Though we followed the written instructions (provided in the special notebook for guests) to adjust the heat, the thermostat/radiators didn't warm up above 12 degrees C. When we tried the troubleshooting suggestion written in the notebook we weren't certain which bottom dial was supposed to be turned. We tried both but got no increased warmth so looked for alternative lodging, which was difficult without internet service, though I did find some old phone (website hidden): we found the TV, some remotes and media devices but got only static.
Oven: the son informed us that the oven was not usable due to a problem with the door.
I ended up staying in Linlithgow because a co-worker had lived there for a number of years. It's not a major centre like Glasgow or Edinburgh, but it does have a few attractions of its own, it's close to major centres and other attractions (like Stirling Castle) and the restaurants and pubs we went to in town were all excellent. This place is worth considering if you are visiting other parts of Scotland with a rental car and want to stay out of the city for a little less money, and a little more "authentic" Scottish experience.
Although we only saw Jeanne at check-in (we rented the whole house), but she was an excellent and thorough host, and she kept in touch to make sure we had everything we needed. The house was great and it really made you feel like you were at home.
Excellent communication. Friendly & helpful with local information. Accommodation was comfortable with good kitchen facilities. Location was very convenient for easy access to airport & areas outside Edinburgh. Highly recommended.
We stayed in jeanne's lovely home for 3 nights on a trip to Scotland and really enjoyed it. The home is lovely and cosy, well set up for all your needs. Jeanne wasn't there during our stay but had left us a chicken curry in the fridge, which was delicious with our very late arrival!
The 2 rooms are very comfortable, the shower is hot and the wifi good. It's about 30mins to Edinburgh - we went to a park and ride about 20mins away to save parking costs which worked really well.
Jeanne was very easy to contact, pre and during our stay. Linlithgow is a nice small town with plenty of shops, cafes etc for your needs and well worth an explore too.
Highly recommended for a break to Scotland :)
We spend a very pleasent time in Jeanne's house. She is a generous and nice person . She was very helpfull when we needed. Her house is comfortable and and there is everything you need for a good holiday.
I had guests from Australia come and stay during the busy Festival season in Jeanne's house. They were absolutely delighted with her hospitality and effort to make them feel at home. I found Jeanne very easy to communicate with and was fast at getting back to any questions I had. I would definitely recommend Jeanne's accommodation.
