I'm an educator and graduate student in Tucson, AZ.
Matt and his group were nice people but we were a bad fit. They needed but could not afford more space and privacy. I made them a special deal that involved trade of computer tutoring (which never was followed up) and a price that fit their budget.
I was told this was an educators retreat that would involve art projects in keeping with Bailey House policy of only housing artists. This did not appear to be the case in that the group mainly dealt in large meetings that needed privacy in that they involved much talking and personal interaction.
If they were writing/making art I was unaware of it.
The group was basically composed of very young people who didn't know how to use the kitchen or how to leave their spaces without instruction/prompting from their two more adult supervisors (onlyone was in charge for most of the retreat).
I was disappointed with hosting this group in that they left the a.c. on in the back rooms throughout their visit (again a violation of our agreement) even leaving it on when they left--and the back door open.
They used a lot of water/electric and it showed up vividly on my monthly bill. Part of the agreement was they would leave a very light footprint and I don't think the kids were aware of the agreement their retreat leader, Matt, had made.
The microwave was filthy, coffee had overflowed from the coffee maker and dripped down into cupboards --which I found full of coffee grounds after they left. Dishes were put randomly any place and many were put back dirty. The bedrooms were sticky and ill kept after the group left and the bathrooms were very dirty as well.
Matt probably would have been a fine guest alone. He seems very committed to this educational group and to the youth it serves--and that was commendable. I think he lost track of the needs of the group when trying to find a space at very little cost. That I had dogs and a cat is clearly mentioned in my listing and I would hope those with allergies would be aware that animals live here. Have never had complaints about animal fur before and always dust and vacumn all rooms before letting them out.
I lost money on this group and spent a lot of time cleaning up after them. I felt sad when they left as I knew it had not been a good experience for either of us.
