Nice little studio in safe neighbourhood. Close to timesquare but very quiet in the evening. Close to a lot of restaurants and a subwaystation which connects you to the rest of the city en the JFK airport.
Berta is such a nice person, and I was received by her with kindness and respect. I spent one week there in her studio and I had everything that I needed. Although the building is a little bit old, everything was working really fine, and personally, I enjoy such sorts of buildings! The neighborhood is just perfect located due to the fact that the street is not so noisy, as well as the avenues, comparing with the Madison Square. The Central Park is just a few blocks away, and also some of the interesting Museums in New York are near. Plus, the neighbor is full of restaurants and bars. I would certainly stay there again.
Response from Berta:
Thank you for the nice review, the tile is cracked because the floor is a bit uneven, so i fix it constantly but it cracks again. The floor is not falling, it is separate structure from the tile. :)
Great experience overall. The apartment is in a fantastic location on a fairly quiet street (for NYC). Bertha has reasonable house rules and was very responsive with questions. Highly recommended!

Just the best location for midtown at a great price. Hells Kitchen is a diverse and vibrant place with so much to see and do. Great bars and restaurants. Times Square is only a few mins walk away. Berta is very sweet and I only wish I could have stayed there longer. I would defiantly stay there again.
Berta's studio was fantastic! It was everything I needed for a fully functional and comfortable stay! It is charming and the kitchen and bath worked well for me, with more room in it than the picture shows. It is perfectly situated and very safe. I was there in April, so it was not hot enough to try AC, but there is one in the window. The heat worked when it was cold. It was pretty quiet. I would definitely stay there again. Berta is a wonderful hostess and respects your privacy and busy schedule. Lots of hot water in shower, too, all day. If you like softer bed, you can buy an inexpensive foam topper at Macy's that makes bed just right, then pack the topper in suitcase to take home. The apt is charmingly 1900s, so learn to operate door lock: don't use door knob. Rather open door to leave by pulling on deadbolt, and before you close door to leave insert key into the deadbolt and pull on key gently but firmly to pull door closed and get deadbolt lined up with door. Then turn key to right I think til it clicks. Then turn key sideways left I think to pull out key. Push in door to make sure closed. When you come back to unlock, you basically turn it the other way.
I stayed in this studio in March 2014.
1) Before my visit I need to know adress where I can pick up the key but host didn't connect to me hole week.
2) Very old and uncomfotable studio.
3) After previous guest nobody didn't disinfect bathroom.
4) You must clean studio after your visit, but you payed for clean (it was included in booking)
It's not good price for that studio. If you can find another flat, do it!
stayed here to be relatively close to Times Square and see a show at Carnegie Hall. Had a fine stay. Nothing fancy but was all I needed. Berta is a nice host and communicated very well with me.
