My name is Anna, I'm from southern California, and I'm currently attending Baruch's School of Public Affairs.
Anna is a lovely host ready to help and very accommodating. When I am in NY I would like to rent again at her place.
You can't get more central than this: in the heart of Greenwich Village, across the street from the Comedy Cellar, Reggio's Cafe, a ton of good international eats, great nightlife (including the famous Blue Note jazz venue and places where the Beatniks and the 1960's folk singers performed) and easy access to the subway. You are only two blocks from Washington Square and NYU too. If you want an inexpensive, clean and friendly accommodation this is the perfect place. Anna is an exceptional host and was kind enough to invite me out and spend time showing me around. She keeps the place up nicely and is readily available if you need to get in touch. I can't recommend this place enough!
K., you were also a fantastic host. Thanks to both of you, you made my stay memorable and happy.
Anna was a stellar host! She keeps her apartment clean and makes sure there are enough supplies etc. and is very prompt with her communication. Her place is right in the heart of Greenwich Village on MacDougall street so you cannot get more central than that to explore New York City.
A couple of cons to know beforehand 1) The apartment is in an old building and space is very tight - though Anna is planning on creative improvements with furniture and design to make it much more comfortable 2) important for those who might be allergic - there are 2 cats in the apartment. The cats are quite friendly but do like to be in guest rooms, jump on beds, kitchen platforms etc.
Ultimately what makes staying here an absolute treat is that Anna truly cares for the comfort of her guests and is extremely friendly and available. She even arranged for a little house get-together for my birthday while I was there!
I highly recommend this place, especially for the warm hospitality of the host.
Thank you Anna. It was such a pleasure meeting you and I am sure I will see you again soon.
I had the best time - from being welcomed to being invited to come along for a drink with friends, to Sunday morning coffee :)
Would definitely stay here again & highly recommend it!
Anna was fantastic! Welcomed me with a smile and the keys so that I could take it from there. The space is in a great location so it was easy to get around and there is this AMAZING pizza spot across the street about a block down that I highly recommend. Overall great experience.
Next time I'm in the city I will definitely contact her for a place to rest my head again :)
Anna was a fantastic host. Very accommodating despite less than 24 hours notice! Highly recommended.
Stayed at Anna's in the Village and it was the perfect spot... close to everything (subway, restaurants, bars, people, action). Room is as described (small) but I had everything I needed and wasn't there much. Anna was a WONDERFUL host - genuine, friendly, helpful, sweet. Will definitely stay here again on my next visit.
Really fantastic value in the heart of the city! Great host and fine accommodations! No complaints on my end!
Anna was a great host! I ended up staying in the larger room with a comfy full size bed which was a nice surprise. At one point we (2 other airbnb-ers and I) ran out of toilet paper and Anna quickly brought more. The place isn't brand new but it's clean, though there is a litter box so if cats/litter boxes bother you that's something to keep in mind. It didn't bother me, and her cats are friendly, so it was fine. I didn't really see Anna most of the time, I really only slept there and she was busy too, but she made sure to text and check in. Oh and the location is great! But with that comes some noise - on the weekend you can hear people outside if you're in the larger room (there's bars and restaurants), but it's not too bad and didn't keep me from sleeping. Overall I enjoyed my stay and I'd stay there again in the future.
Anna was a great host, her page is really clear about the amenities and there are no surprises. She was sociable, courteous, engaging, and generous.
The location of the apartment is also downright amazing, it's super close to great transportation, night life, and just a short train ride away from everything an out-of-towner wants to see (museums, galleries, etc).
The only drawbacks are space (which... you know, it's New York, so what do you expect?) and the fact that the building itself is a bit old. While this means it has awesome character, it also means the hot water takes a long time to kick in and the decor is not exactly up to date -- also probably not the most friendly place for people with disabilities. None of which Anna could really do a darn thing about. Great place to stay at a great price.
BONUS: the cats are really friendly.
I was recently referred to Anna through a mutual friend while I was looking for a place to stay between apartments in NYC. Anna is exactly the type of host that a traveller, or even a new local like myself, needs in the city. She regularly invited me out with her friends, even introducing me to some fellow Australians here. Since moving into my new apartment I have even met up with Anna and her social circle a couple of times, who are all equally warm and inviting as her.
My room in the apartment was clean and cozy, and Anna was very attentive in making sure I was comfortable. The apartment itself is in the heart of the West Village, with an abundance of choices for food, drink and entertainment at the doorstep. Washington Square Park is just around the corner and is the perfect people-watching venue! It's also a short walk to public transportation to see other areas of the city.
Anybody looking to enrich their experience in NYC would definitely benefit from staying with Anna!
Where to start with Anna?!
Back before airBnB and before her move to New York Anna used to be a (website hidden) host. For the unfamiliar this is essentially a good will accommodation network. A host offers their couch/spare room and expects nothing in return. I stayed with Anna as a young traveller making my way down the west coast and was blown away by her hospitality.
Anna is a confident young woman in her element as a host, she went to great lengths to make me feel at home while I stayed with her. She's both social and attentive, I tagged along on some of her nights out and she gave me all the information I needed to go out on my own adventures. Always busy, always smiling, every bit living the American dream with no signs of slowing down I can think of no better guide through the hectic world of NYC.
Her apartment in California was just the right amount of 'lived-in', I recently saw her pad in New York and whilst it's smaller I'm happy to say it has the same warmth. It's a shame New York is so expensive, I'm sure otherwise Anna would open her doors without cost. For accommodation with a real human connection you should look no further than this woman.
Highly recommended! See you again soon Anna!
