Non-natives (from Pittsburgh and the SF bay area), who love The City, any city, but especially cities that have retained the story of their settling in their architecture and culture.... St. Louis in spades.
Like many unrepentant house collectors in the midwest, we have several, in various states of improvement, which is why we can share the best one, our Urban Oasis, with visitors. We are usually busy working on one thing or another, building a new water feature, installing a ceiling. (Maybe the water feature is a fountain, maybe a bathroom... it's all fun and games until someone gets wet. Oh, wait. No, it's still fun.)
Jeff works for the federal government and rides his bike to the office. I design and make clothing, and write about that and other stuff, too.
Plus, we love dogs, and St. Louis loves dogs, so that is working out great for us. (Not so good for you if you are allergic... we keep a clean house and de-fur, but it is a Sisyphean task.)
As you may have gathered, we are child-free and do not recommend bringing children to the house... It is not child-safe, let alone "proofed", but also it wouldn't be much of an "Oasis" then, would it? You can, however, bring a pet or two, if they are well-behaved and won't get on the furniture.
Cheers, and happy trails to you wherever you wander.
