We are a responsable couple, we love travel and also has an apartment in airbnb in Barcelona center :-)
Muy buena ubicación. A pesar de ser una calle con mucho ruido, desde el apartamento no se escucha nada y se duerme de maravilla!
Diseñado con buen gusto.
The apartment itself is greatly located. About five minute walk to Ramblas and everything else that Barcelona has to offer from there. Very handy. Its on the top 6th floor with a very narrow stair well so if you have big luggage it may be a heavy lift. The apartment is nicely furnished, with the usual kitchen facilities. There is the window/door that opens out to some fresh air and the surrounding neighbours but no one can really see you. Through here you can access the internet. The neighbourhood is very multi cultured and may not be to everyones liking, but it safe. The host communicated great, met and showed me the apartment with no problems.
The only problem i had was there was construction happening outside the front door of the apartment which woke me at 7.45 every morning. This wasnt how i wanted to be woken. The drilling and hammering was right next to my head and hence no sleep. Perhaps the host could have warned me about this.
But apart from this everything was ok.
Mixed feelings : Joan is an extremely nice guy, no doubt about it - he met with us at a cafe and walked us over to the apartment, we realized the reason after... because the apartment is down a dark, pretty creepy alley. The space itself is very basic, NO WIFI (though we stole some through the window), no view, pretty quiet, CLEAN, and on the top floor. Five flights of EXTREMELY NARROW STAIRS - I warn for anyone carrying a suitcase, travelling with more than a backpack, this is going to really suck!!! While the location is very central, off the las ramblas, it is down a couple of blocks that steadily become worse and more ghetto like until you approach your little alley where there are prostitutes at the end and men that approach you (we were two women in their 20s). All that being said, my friend and I often felt very uncomfortable, though nothing scary happened to us, hence why I say "mixed feelings" ...and why I'd definitely recommend MADRID over BARCELONA all together.
We had a lovely time in Joan's great apartment. Joan met us himself, after sending us a very helpful booklet which meant we found the Cafe Opera with no difficulty at all. Joan was a great host; he gave us tips about Barcelona, and carried up one of our suitcases. I think I've read this elsewhere, but do feel that I should point out that there are a LOT of steps - not a place for anyone with a heart condition or a ton of heavy luggage. The apartment and its location were perfect - we walked practically everywhere from there, and the Liceu station is right there for longer distances. We had no trouble with anyone on the street; in fact, the owner of the laundrymat very helpfully pointed out our front door when we couldn't find it on our first return! The market is two minutes away, and La Rambla five minutes. I absolutely recommend this place!
It was a very nice experience - to live in Barcelona like at home, in sunny and cozy apartment at El Raval. Joan was very friendly, he sent me a list of advices before my arrival: how to get to apartment, where to go in Barcelona, etc. We visited a restaraunt in Barceloneta recommended by Joan, and it was a really special one. 2 points should be mentioned: first, apartment doesn't have an airconditioning, so it may become very hot in a peak of summer. Second, it's located in a very tiny and dark sidestreet, and I wouldn't recommend it to solo women travellers. Beside that, I higly recommend this apartment for staying in Barcelona. It's really better experience than living in Barry Gotic, which is actually no Barcelona anymore.
Wonderfully close to the Ramblas yet quite because it faces a courtyard. Very efficient apartment for two!
Joans apartment was perfectly located right in the heart of Barcelona. We have had a great time and could definitely recommend this place. Thanks again Joan!
The apartment is very well located, clean and have all the basic stuff you need for a pleasent stay.
On the downside the shower can't hang, so you have to hold it while you shower and the bed fits better for one than two people (it leans to one side).
Another point to have in mind is that the flat is on the 5th floor and the building has a very narrow stair walk, so don't bring too much luggage with you!
We had a great time in Barcelona. This was our first time we booked a appartment by air bnb but it's certainly not our last. We enjoyed staying in the appartment in the centre of this great city. It's very quiet while outside the door it's close to all the action. Also the metrostation is close when you need it.
The contact we had with Joan and his friend who guided us to the appartment was good, we experienced them as very friendly people.
We certainly recommend this place to everyone.
Very nice, airy flat. Nice views and terrace. Very well located, and with a local market and shops very close. The apartment is perfect for the summer, however we arrived on one of the coldest weeks in the year, and despite using the heaters, the flat was still quite cold, but perhaps this is more to do with Barcelona. We had a really lovely stay and we'd stay there again.
Joan was an excellent guest! Great communication, clean and neat, and genuinely nice - would be more than happy to host him again!
Great hosts, recommended!
