Mark's home is beautiful and located close to both downtown Amagansett and downtown East Hampton. I stayed here with my husband and one year old for a week and we found the house to have everything we needed - and more. It's a total retreat with lots of beautiful artwork, tons of books and board games. We grilled food some nights out back. The home is an easy 20 minute walk to the beach, too (although we were able to purchase day parking passes to Two Mile Hollow beach).
This house was perfect for our purposes - a friends get together / escape from the city. We rented the house for a week and it served as the perfect home base for exploring all the great things the Hamptons have to offer.
We found the house exactly as described / pictured. It's certainly not your typical cookie cutter house, it has a unique layout and lots of beautiful artwork and furniture throughout. The house has a large backyard and a patio perfect for enjoying group meals. The kitchen was fully stocked with everything we needed (pots, pans, dishwasher, cleaners, etc). One thing to note - there is no AC. I'm not sure if we got lucky or if its just the nature of East Hampton weather, but even in the middle of July the heat never seemed very bad so with the windows open this was not an issue for us. Plenty of beds, linens, and towels and the house has a washer /dryer in case you need to wash anything.
One of the best things about this house was the location. The house is roughly a mile from East Hampton town center in one direction and a mile from Amagansett in the other. It's an easy walk into either town or a fast drive. Goldberg's bagels, Moby's, Bostwicks, and Luigi's are all just around the corner. Considering we were a larger group and cars were somewhat limited - having things in walking distance made everything that much easier.
Two mile hollow beach is an easy 15/20 minute walk down a couple of beautiful shaded roads. The beach was never too crowded and the house came equipped with pretty much anything you could want for the beach - chairs, sand toys, blankets and towels, etc.
Mark was responsive and very helpful in answering all of our questions. During our stay the housekeeper came to empty the trash and the gardener came to cut the grass but generally we were left on our own. My friends and I had a great time and would love to come back!
Mark and his wife were great at keeping in contact and getting back to me quickly. We had everything we needed the minute we pulled into the driveway to comfortably ease in and relax for our trip.
Aside from checking in about the nature of our visit (which is totally normal since this is someone's beautiful home and I was in a large group) everything went smoothly. The house was GREAT!! Perfect amount of space for the 8 adults and an active 19month old toddler that was in my group.
The house is divided into 3 spaces on opposite ends of the house for sleeping areas and of course a sweet living room and dinning area all in the middle of the home (just perfect). It was nice because we could all have our own space if we needed quiet/nap time. But there was also plenty of room to hangout together and watch tv or eat together.
The kitchen is really "cozy" and really is built for one person to cook. But we just needed a place to make breakfast quickly before all our activities and people in my group woke up at different times....so it really worked for our needs. Kitchen was well stocked with the essentials.
Honestly...since I was with family visiting for a family wedding... we didn't get much time in the house to really enjoy the space more between wedding and family get togethers. But it was very comfortable and functional for all of our needs.
There were plenty of fresh towels for everyone. The only issue we ran into was there were only 3 rolls of single ply TP in the house. But a quick run the the local supermarket (7 minutes away) and we were all good :)
The house is very close to the main road through town which was great because we were close to everything! But we were far away from the main road to really enjoy the peace and quiet East Hampton has to offer. You really can't beat the location!
The house is beautifully decorated with unique and wonderful art and the back yard is gorgeous! There was plenty of character to the house. If I were to describe the feel of the home I would describe it as "shabby chic" meets "high craft art." Comfortable without feeling pretentious.
Don't be fooled by its minimal and humble appearance when you pull up into the driveway. It's a spacious yet cozy hidden gem.
We had a great time in Mark's house. We had breakfast every morning on the deck in the backyard and that was wonderful. Unfortunately, we could not use the grill because it was simply too dirty. We appreciated having lots of towels, beach chairs and umbrellas. We loved the art work and the books. The house had more space than we needed and the description and pictures were pretty accurate. The kitchen is small but fully stocked with dishes/pans/pots, etc... and we were able to prepare a very nice dinner one of the nights. Moby's and the amazing Goldberg's Bagel Shop are around the corner and the beach is a 15 to 20 minute-walk away. Mark responded to emails quickly and was clear in his communications with us. We were lucky to have perfect weather which allowed us to enjoy every minute of our time in East Hampton.
Mark's house was perfect for our long weekend. The house was very spacious and had plenty of room for our group. The living and dining area was perfect for hanging around in a larger group, and the outdoor space was perfect for our Kan-Jam games.
The house was fully stocked with everything you might need on a beach vacation - cooking supplies, beach equipment (towels, umbrellas, beach chairs, etc.), grill, extensive library, board games, TVs, etc.
The location couldn't have been better - just outside the main village area, it was within walking distance to Two Mile Hollow beach, plus Moby's, Bostwick's, and Goldberg's. It was a short 5 minute drive to the village center, where we took the Free Ride to Main Beach a couple of the days.
Overall it was the ideal home base for our group.
We had a great time. Loved that is was close to the beach and easy to drive to East Hampton and Montauk.
We really enjoyed our stay. Large fenced in backyard which was great as we brought our dogs. Plenty of room for our 3 kids. Great location between town of east hampton & amagansett. Close to beach.
The location is great - convenient to the beach and the towns of East Hampton and Amagansett. The house is spacious and the yard is large and nice. The word that best describes the house is quirky. kitchen and bathrooms are functional, but could use some updating (the showers are very small). Some bedrooms were nice and big, others were a bit odd, and calling them all bedrooms is a bit of a stretch. Overall, I recommend this low key home in a great location.
The E Hampton Retreat was a great place for our 9 member group. We did walk to the ocean beach....be prepared for it to take 15 min. The house was clean and well stocked with start-up necessities. The beds were (except for one single) very comfortable and there were plenty of dishes, glasses etc. and the many beach towels, several umbrellas and beach chairs were much appreciated. The backyard was private and provided ample space to enjoy beautiful weather. Mark was quick to respond to questions and was very accommodating.
This is a wonderfully atmospheric house, beautiful yard, and great location. A bit quirky but many treasures and a true home away from home.
