My cousin and I loved staying with John! John was always friendly and quickly to reply to my messages and questions. He is an extremely gracious and accommodating host and the room was very clean and comfortable. We really appreciated the tips on getting around Portland as well as and restaurant recommendations that he gave us. We would definitely want to stay with John again next time we come to Portland!
John's place is beautiful, clean, and well located - the perfect place to stay while in Portland whether you're looking to indulge in the city's food scene or have fun exploring the Gorge. It's located just a short drive to the Gorge or downtown Portland, there is easy parking off the Main Street and it's pretty quiet so you can get a good night's sleep. The studio is warm and cozy, the beds are comfy, the bathroom is spotless, and even though there is no full kitchen, there is a small fridge and coffee maker.
John is friendly, helpful, and knowledgable about all things Portland. We had a great time chatting with John and trying out restaurants he recommended. My partner and I had a great time and will certainly be staying at John's the next time we are in town!
Driving down from Seattle to San Francisco we stayed over night at John's guesthouse. Writing this I almost wish there was a six star review option rather than just five. John is a great host. He has a keen eye for detail and the guesthouse is cozy, comfy, homey, quiet and inviting. Last but not least, John gave us great tips on restaurants in the area and suggested places of interest on our way south.
John goes far and beyond to make your stay a home away from home. The place has smooth decor and a warm feel, you might not want to leave on a rainy day. John has a great taste for recommended restaurants and staple places to visit. On our next trip to Portland, we will be sure to visit and reserve with John again.
Amazing home! Highly recommended!
John was a perfect host. He greeted us and oriented us to the bungalow and the neighborhood. The bungalow was perfectly clean and comfortable. It was close and convenient to the airport. There was even a keurig with coffee and fresh half and half. There was a little road noise as the property is located on a main highway so if you are aensitive you may choose to bring ear plugs but otherwise this did not pose a problem for us. Me freind and I thouroughly enjoyed are stay and would live to stay again.
Is it possible to request that the host come home with me? John was wonderful, and his accommodations were so much more than I ever expected. The living room/bedroom was beautifully furnished with loving care and attention to detail. Beds were comfortable, the place was spotless. The bathroom a pleasure to use with its modern shower, perfect appointments, and the pièce de résistance: the Keurig coffee machine complete with coffee. The only complaint I have is that the rental rate was way too low for such a wonderful place. Every time I get to Portland, I will absolutely use John’s place again.
My fiancee and I had a great time staying with John. The place was comfy, well-designed, and a great home base for exploring Portland. John is also a great guide (and advocate) for Portland. Before we left, he invited us to the main house (where he lives) and talked about how Portland has changed over time -- especially in relation to the Bay Area, where we're from. We got a chance to visit the Pittock Mansion in Portland, which is great, but I'd say we learned more about the history of the place from John! Anyhow, we'd highly recommend staying with John and will definitely be doing so on future trips to the area!
John hosted my mom on a holiday trip. He was more than gracious. The place was very cute, well designed and decorated. Great, cozy little place.
Another great stay with John! Love the guesthouse and will be back every time we visit Portland.
John and his friend were lovely guests - pleasant to talk with and left the room in great condition. They are welcome back any time!
Have known John for many years. Just visited Portland to meet my new grandson, and John let me stay in his guest house. It is lovely, not to mention very clean and such comfy beds! John has many wonderful attributes, not to mention what a great host he is. He is very knowledgable about restaurants and areas to visit. The location is perfect in terms of accessing the various areas of Portland. Highly recommend you stay with John when visiting Portland.
I have known John for more than 20 years.
In his recent location, I have had the opportunity to stay on three occasions over the past year (having recently relocated to the WA area).
John has a lovely separate guest suite that is very clean and comfortable. Bed linens and towels are of excellent quality. There is also access to WiFi.
This accommodation location makes it a great attraction to anyone visiting or relocating to the area.
John is very knowledgeable on restaurants, local attractions and the general Portland area.
I highly recommend anyone considering a unique place to stay.
A lovely room, a wonderful host with great knowledge of Portland shopping, eating, browsing.
I've had the pleasure of staying in this guest house twice now, and each time it was perfect. Comfortable beds, beautiful bath, and so, so quiet. The "Ricky and Lucy" set up is great for the space, as there is room enough for a nice comfy chair to chill with a book or tablet, and a big armoire that hides the TV. A small 'fridge and Keurig coffee maker rounds out the room.
The back patio is lovely, and a great place to sit with your morning coffee, your Kindle or the like.
Being minutes from the airport, you don't have to get up 3 hours beforehand, and everything in Portland is within 20 minutes anyway. Getting around is easy...so don't let the location throw you off.
John is the consummate host, and is very knowledgable about the Portland area and the best places to grab a great bite from a neighborhood hole-in-the-wall, or one of the trendy food carts, or a fun, "best of" restaurant.
HIGHLY recommended. Go chill at John's.
John's guest house is beautifully furnished. Very comfortable beds and pillows. Lovely modern bath with shower and Restoration Hardware towels! Off-street parking and private entrance to the guest house.John's guest house is beautifully furnished. Very comfortable beds and pillows. Lovely modern bath with shower and Restoration Hardware towels! Off-street parking and private entrance to the guest house. John knows Portland very well and can offer good suggestions for things to do, see and places to eat off beaten path. John has a lovely garden patio to relax and enjoy a book, use your laptop or just enjoy a glass of wine.
John is the preeminent host - gracious, thoughtful and well acquainted with his city. His guest house is a haven away from home; tastefully decorated, fully equipped and quiet. I have known this man for 30 years and would (and have) stayed with him on many occasions. Just an FYI - he makes terrific coffee (strong), always has half&half in his refrigerator, and gets up early! He's one of the best guys ever!
