Tenaya was very accommodating and a good host, we arrived later in the evening and she walked us to the cottage and gave us a quick rundown on the property. The cottage was in a great location, little quiet neighborhood right next to the dunes. It was well equipped although we didn't cook much on our stay. We really felt at home at the cottage and had a great time relaxing for the weekend.
This was our second visit to Clara's Cottage and it was just as wonderful and private as our first visit. Tenaya is a great host and makes you feel right at home. The walk to the dunes and the beach are sensational and her place is great for BBQing and enjoying the peace and quiet that Mendocino County is famous for.
Clara's cottage lies in a beautifully landscaped half-enchanted garden just minutes from sand dunes and vast opened beaches with practically nobody to be seen far and wide. This Cottage and the immense garden offer a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to experience one another un-distracted, undisturbed and immediate, in ways maybe long forgotten or not yet happened, experiences that may be unattainable in any other imaginable environment. If you appreciate no street lights at night and watching 100,000 stars, wonderful silence (with the roar of breakers far in the distance), a truly enchanted bath and shower (without bronze fixtures and tile floors) under an immense and spreading tree, simple but complete accommodations, a few day's freedom from mobile servers or wi-fi (if necessary then up at Tenaya's house), a bird feeder with various CA birds, and the feeling of access to your almost-private vast and spreading beach, then do not miss!!! this place. And Tenaya is generous, kind, and most accommodating. The cottage is also cozy and clean. This is one of the most beautiful, simple and private! places near the ocean that I have never seen, either in the USA or in Europe.
Tenaya's cottage was very cozy and relaxing. It was exactly what we were looking for. After spending two great days in her cottage we felt reenergized and rested. I recommend her cottage to anyone that is looking for place to escape and enjoy nature.
Tenaya and Ed's Inglenook Sanctuary, Clara’s Cottage.
September 19th, 2015
Embracing this delightful sanctuary is a gift for the spirit, mind and body that is deeply appreciated, especially for those of us seeking reprieve from the consuming demands of a fast paced life. When Tenaya told us that her property was a place for decoupling from electronic media—all it took was a few minutes to feel the calm vibe set the tone for an awesome stay.
It has been a week since we had the pleasure of cocooning in this nirvana but the blissful memory of the deep creative slowness is as fresh as if I never left. The quality this memory is a sincere reminder of a special experience where I can still smell the flowers, hear the ocean and see the Hummingbirds gracefully dancing amidst the symphony of flowers.
We had six beautiful days where time magically slowed down with the help of Tenaya's generous hospitality, vision and collaboration with nature. This is the kind of soul relaxing mind, body and spirit experience one does not want to end but when it does the next best part is imagining another stay.
Clara's Cottage is a wonderfully snug hand crafted wood work of love that is perfect for a cozy retreat into simplicity. Very clean, well appointed and plenty of windows to visually soak in the mesmerizing gardens. A cozy bedroom with wood stove beckons on the cool coastal nights. Tenaya also gifted us with delicious fresh homemade cookies, jam and fruit. Yumm!
We were promised that our stay would nurture our connection with Nature and that was superbly fulfilled. It was as if we were being directed by Nature's wonderful invisible agents that beckoned from the land with fruit trees, vegetable gardens, berries, exotic botanicals, an empty beach and a full bounty singing birds.
While I would love to could go on and on with the many other delights, I will suffice to say that the gift of this sanctuary runs deep and nurtures deep creative spirit in abundant simplicity with a truly enjoyable and highly valued slowed down reflective quiet sense of time. As both of us are artists this is a highly valued commodity for our spirits and visioning processes!
Thank you Tenaya and Ed, for so generously offering your sanctuary for our travels and we look forward to a continued relationship with future visits.

Our stay in Clara's cottage was wonderful. Tenaya and her husband have worked hard to create wonderful spaces for unwinding and relaxing -- both indoor and outdoor. Their attention to detail really shows! We enjoyed exploring the MacKerricher dunes, where we were the only people on the beach for miles. We spent quite a lot of time reading and relaxing in the garden, and enjoyed soaking in the outdoor tub under the stars with the sound of the ocean in the background. Tenaya was a lovely host -- met us and gave us a full orientation to the cottage, the dunes, and the surrounding area. We enjoyed the delicious treats she left in the cottage for us. The cottage was comfortable, clean, and well-appointed. The cottage, patio, and outdoor tub strike the perfect balance of being open, cozy, and private. The cottage is located north of Fort Bragg, and we took short trips to various local attractions -- the Stornetta public lands, Point Arena lighthouse, glass beach, and Mendocino village. There is so much to beautiful scenery to explore nearby -- we hope to plan a return trip to come back to see even more. Tenaya has provided an excellent local guidebook in the cottage with a wealth of tips for local nature exploring. We highly recommend Clara's cottage for anyone who is looking for a rejuvenating, relaxing, and unplugged vacation.
Tenaya greeted us when we arrived with a very comprehensive tour of her beautiful property. The little cottage is adorable, was spotlessly clean, and had a really loving and relaxing feel. We loved the outdoor sitting area as well, and the tiny kitchen was super functional in addition to being totally adorable. It was also incredibly nice to have delicious muffins, strawberries & coffee for our first morning. The outdoor bathing experience is lovely...who doesn't want to bathe under an ancient cypress tree in moonlight? Thanks so much for sharing your beautiful cottage with us, Tenaya!
A truly wonderful experience! We couldn't have asked for anything more from our stay or our host. Tenaya greeted us with fresh muffins and berries, and provided some wonderful advice about what to do in the area. The kitchen was extremely well stocked, and made cooking breakfast every morning a delight. We would stay here again every weekend if we could!
One of my favorite vacation experiences to date!
Spend some time at Clara's Cottage and you will find that it is a place that was not only made by Tenaya and Ed, but "created"--the wonderful micro-home was not only tailor fit to the traveler's needs, but the custom craftsmanship and landscaping provided it's own ongoing enjoyment. Likewise, we not only enjoyed, but savored our experiences in the cottage as with the endlessly interesting Mendocino coast.
We tried almost all of Tenaya's concise recommendations and as a result enjoyed excellent fish n chips and boat-watching at Noyo Harbor, great local pizza and beer in downtown Ft. Bragg, a fantastic and solitary hike along the nearby tide pools, a trek to a private Pacific dunes beach, a wonderful journey through the gorgeous town of Mendocino and much more.
This cottage was the perfect base for a 4 day trip to the coast. We loved the cottage itself, the dunes, the deck and garden, and the option to save money by cooking or own meals.
What a wonderful escape! I found the journey mild to and from this truly peaceful and regenerating little home by the sea. I couldn't have asked for more - the weather was fine, the company was friendly, and the gardens, the private beach access, the quiet breeze and flicker of sunlight on the backs of birds fluttering about. Very, very nice.
