Great time, with great people. Thanks for having me!
Merci Jacob et ses colloc pour ce petit séjour à Yangon où je me suis senti comme chez moi..
Had a really nice stay with the three guys here. Their apartment is quite nice and they will make you feel at home.
They also will take you out with them at night, so you're sure to have a fun night and meet lots of cool expats that can give you info on the country.
Definitely expect to party with these boys. When they say active social life they mean they are up late and getting loud! As long as you're down for that, this is a great cheap option to stay in Yangon. The immediate neighborhood definitely
gives you the experience of being in a developing country, with endless street vendors in back streets you can easily get lost in. It's a vibrant interesting area, but don't expect to find wifi anywhere or many people who speak English. I would come back to stay and spend more time to get around to see more of the city. Overall recommend the experience!
Jacob was a great host. He welcomed us, gave good recommendations and joined us for a few meals and drinks. Place was as advertised. If you're looking for a central spot to stay in Yangon and get some local knowledge, it's a good choice.
The flat is a great spot and great value for money. The host was great help to get us started for our travels. Great to see how people live in Myanmar. Definitely recommend!
Jacob is a warm-hearted host. He shared his friends with me and my friend for New Year's Eve which was very much appreciated. He also joined us for a meal. These social aspects really helped make the experience better.
With his roommates out of town, he was kind enough to allow me to sleep in one of the bedrooms so that me and friend didn't have to both share the living room. Much appreciated.
The cleanliness (or lack thereof) is pretty much in line with Olivier's experience although there was no smoking inside during our stay. House and/or shower slippers might be good items to consider as cleanliness is a definite issue.
Electricity failed at several points during the stay. As it relates to Jacob's apartment, I learned that these outages essentially prevent you from being able to shower due to a complete lack of water pressure. As such, you may want to schedule/take advantage accordingly.
The quality of service and accommodation could improve but given the price point and the current lodging standards found today in Yangon, it isn't so much out of line as it might be elsewhere. As noted, the social element that Jacob added was a definite plus and an advantage that was much appreciated.
Overall the short stay at Jacob's served its purpose as a springboard into the rest of Myanmar.
The reservation was canceled 2 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
Jacob and his roommates provided me with an amazing time in Yangon --- within minutes of arriving, I was with Jacob and his roommates on a local train downtown, the beginning of a epic and most memorable night out.
Even after my stay, Jacob went out of his way to make sure that my remaining time in Myanmar proceeded smoothly --- he's truly a kind host.
The accommodation description on the airbnb website was indeed accurate: it's indeed an great flat with an awesome group of expats. In truth, it's probably not for travelers looking for peace, quiet and seclusion. Instead, Jacob's is ideal for those travelers hoping to embrace the full --- and at times chaotic --- Yangon experience.
We slept in the living room of the house. This means no privacy here, and waking up at 3am when your host come back. This was stated in the add so ok for that.
Yet, we really would have appreciated the floor to be cleaned up before the mattress got put on it.
The place was overall quite dirty (shower, living room, floors).
The tables was full of cigarette ashes and our hosts were smoking in the leaving room (so in the place where we slept).
To us, it was not up to AirBnB standards, and was the worst experience we had with this website.
