Determined, smart worker, charismatic, eternal optimist and not so humble.
Very nice place, very clean and great location. Although beyond the control of the owner, the jackhammers outside were quite tough to sleep through in the morning.
We spent 2 weeks in Chris' Lower East Side Apartment over Christmas and New Years Eve. Chris met us out the front of the apartment with the keys, told us some good Vegetarian restaurants in the area and a few of his favourite things to do.
The internet dropped out, but with one phone call Chris had it all back up and working within a few hours. He was always very responsive and communicative.
The apartment was a bit small for 6 adults with 6 suitcases but it wasn't uncomfortable at all. Everything was very clean and neat upon arrival. The location is perfect, the Lower East Side is awesome and you can get anywhere via the subway which was literally at the end of the street.
The only negative was that the bedroom next to the front door was very strongly smelling of smoke, and it hung around for the whole stay and got into out clothes. This was not the fault of the owner, but due to a communal space outside the window where other residents were smoking. Even with the windows shut it came through the vents.
Other than that it was a very enjoyable stay and would recommend!
A year ago in January we first started looking for apartments in New York City for December 2013. We found an apartment with Abi, booked it and paid in advance as the booking system of Airbnb requires.
In April 2013 Abi told us he had made a mistake with the booking. He double booked for the dates we made a reservation and cancelled our booking.
We found another large 2 bedroom apartment suitable for us 5 and booked it again.
5 weeks before our flight Chris informed us that he made a mistake with our reservation & that he had booked us in a 3 bedroom apartment and that it would cost more money?!?
We were confused and annoyed because we knew that we wouldn’t find anything on such short notice.
We arrived on the 21st of December and contacted Chris as previously agreed on.. When we arrived at the address nobody was there, so we contacted him again, he told us the address is not as he previously informed us in an email. He told us on the phone that he was stuck in traffic but his partner would be right there a couple of minutes later. Then Abi arrived.
We told him that we had booked with him in January 2013 and that he kicked us out of the booking, which made him very uncomfortable and he was looking for excuses.
The apartment was ok but with the extra 800.00 $ too expensive:
-The rack of the dishwasher was broken.
-The toilet lid was broken.
-The cleanliness was not ok.
-The WIFI did not always work.
-The door lock was very simple and we were concerned about safety.
-Out of the 13 nights we spent there, 4 nights were very noisy. There was music from the apartments under and next to us until 4 am.
The day before departure we contacted Chris to organize the check out.
The next morning I called Chris as promised to make the arrangements on the keys for the apartment. Chris just wanted us to leave the keys on the table. What we found strange was that he told us on the phone that he wanted to meet us but he never found the time in the 13 days to come by and meet us in person.
All in all we enjoyed our stay in New York City but we would’ve appreciated if the host and Airbnb was more caring, welcoming and communicative.
We work in communication and tourism and know how to make guests from all over the world feel welcomed. With Chris we felt that making money was his only purpose and we did not feel fairly treated when he charged us 800.00 $ more. This was our first time using Airbnb. We thought the prices were very clear on the Airbnb website and did not expect all this hassle.
It was our first airbnb experience and it was very positive! Chris was very helpful and answered all my questions very quickly.
His wife was there to greet us and show us the appartment. We were very confident because they live next door.
The appartment is perfect for 4 persons (I would not put 5 in there). It has all the comfort you need. It was very clean! The appartment is also very well situated: 5 minutes walk from the subway, several grocery stores and restaurants in the neighbourhood.
I definitely recommend this appartment!
Apartment was a perfect fit for my family of 7. Very clean, plenty of room for all of us. The beds were comfortable and we had everything we needed for the stay. Chris Burns is very accommodating! We would stay again for sure!
Chris's apartment off Delancey was just perfect for our group of 5. Two bedrooms are a great asset to this modern and comfortable pad in a fantastic part of town. My twenty something sons took off after dinner on the first night in town and bar hopped around lil'Italy and the LES, returning at first light proclaiming that it was a cool area.
My wife and I also found it a nice area for a drink in a bar or dining at at a nice restaurant. The apartments' proximity to Delancey/Essex metro stop is another bonus. I did not actually meet Chris but all went well with getting access to the building.
Clean and comfortable. Host was a pleasure.
Apartment was very clean, great location for us, met all our needs. Chris made us feel like trusted neighbors.
We had a great time, Chris's apartment is in a GREAT location. We walked everywhere, into Soho, over Williamsburg bridge. Over to Chelsea market even. One night we went to Brooklyn and came back over Brooklyn bridge and walked all the way back (quite a long walk !!!)
The apartment was great, enough sleeping space for the 4 of us. All clean and new. Bathroom was clean and lots of light and mirrors! Its on the 4th floor so quite a pull up the stairs but we knew to expect that. Chris was very helpful and welcoming and met us with the key when we arrived. He also sorted out a couple of queries we had. We love The Butchers Daughter cafe!!! Thanks so much. We'll be back.
We had a great stay in New York. The apartment is located in a great area in Gramacy with lots of restaurants and cafes. It is also only a short walk to the subway. The apartment was clean and easily enough space for 4 adults. Only issue was the light switch in one of the bathrooms which did not turn off. Also the apartment was quite dark as it was below ground level. We were out exploring the city so did not mind about this too much.
