Paul is a true gentleman and staying g with him was a great pleasure. I'm in a rush now gotta go but will come back again later to give a longer recommendation, briefly anyone thinking if going to his should not hesitate!
Paul made us feel very welcome and provided an interesting history on the house and the town. We had some very amusing discussions.
The house is large and in original condition. The ensuite for the room we stayed in had squeaky floor boards.
Paul provided us with a walking tour of the town
If you are seeking a prosaic, spick and span, Farrow-and-Balled B & B, this is not the place for you. If, however, you'd prefer something far more original and idiosyncratic, then this place and your host Paul are are too good to miss. Paul is heroically restoring this fine Edwardian pile to its mid 20th century state. The house is in a quiet location close to town, and is accurately described.
Paul was very hospitable, amusing, and pleasantly eccentric. He could not have been have been more helpful to us with our research project, and the visit was so much fun we will certainly return.
Thank you for that, Roger and Liz. Things have improved of late and we've come some way from the "Barrow and Failed" scenario we had...
Once I actually arrived, I found the room and overall state of the property was extremely poor!
I told Paul that I was going to town to get lunch, but I also went searching for a better place to stay.
I found a lovely b&b about 1/2 mile away, so I popped back to the property to collect my bag and car.
Compared to the property I stayed at in Sligo that I thought merited a "5" star award, this place was "0" star.
I know the owner was redeveloping and had a bad knee, but if you are inviting in guests, you should have a basic level of cleanliness.
Would not recommend.
Incredible collections of antiquy bits. Lovely breakfasts. Rooms were large and airy. Wifi was a bit spotty upstairs, due to the heavy masonry construction of the house. Paul was very friendly and welcoming.
I'm sorry to say that Paul was not as tidy as one would have hoped for- unwashed crockery and cutlery were left in the sink; my teacups were heavily discoloured; my tablecloth was stained; pieces of cereal were left on the floor; trash was scattered in the bedroom and the kitchen; the desk in the room was stained; a mirror was moved from one floor to another and not returned to its original place. I do not charge a cleaning fee as I prefer to rely on the integrity of my guests and keep costs down for them, and this is the only time that I rather wished I had.
Paul was a really great guest - very interesting and warm guy. I really enjoyed having him at the flat.
Great guest really nice guy a pleasure to host
Paul is an intelligent charming man with a great sense of humor. It was a pleasure hosting him.
You were great company too - charming and sooooo attractive in all ways.
My G.P. said I needed to lose (at least) 15 kilos so I'll get on with that before I revisit she who needs to be obeyed. Take care, Yael.
Great guest, paul, you are always welcome back to stay! :D
It was nice meeting and hosting Paul. Very pleasant, friendly, easy going and interesting man. He even explored a very nice India restaurant close by and gave me the information. It was a pleasure!!!!
Paul was only with us one night but we really enjoyed having him stay with us he was very chatty, friendly with lots of interesting stories. We would be happy to recommend him to other airbnb hosts.
