Highly recommend Villa Road Country Getaway as a perfect artist retreat. The house is fully furnished with plenty of space in which to work, reflect, and relax. At every turn, one is pleasantly greeted by a private surprise, whether it is a collection of antique table games stacked on top a cabinet in an upstairs bedroom or the perfectly comfortable dark green velvet sofa in the sitting room, inspirational and welcoming rooms and a sense of history is evident in every nook and cranny. I compare the house to an old comfortable shoe. The garden is a delight with Rachels' eclectic mix of objects, from bowling balls gathered under a tree, to a rusty industrial-sized press serving as the central feature along side the outdoor fire pit, flanked with vintage metal outdoor chairs, there are wonders to be discovered while local birds sing and trees evoke a true retreat of wonder and delight.
A beautiful house! I visited with three friends over a long weekend and we had a lovely, relaxing time. Rachel and Rob were wonderful hosts, they provided us with some food and were there when I arrived to show me around the house. Highly recommended.
Rachet est une hôte très (website hidden) maison est très propre. Pour y accéder, il y a une ligne directe de métro et nous avons trouvé un bon petit restaurant proche de la maison.
Excellent experience! A friend and I stayed here while attending a work conference in downtown Philadelphia. Transit into the downtown was simple, cheap and convenient (walking downtown took longer (~45min) but was also good). Rachel is a wonderful host; warm, welcoming and very helpful. The room is exactly as described. It was very comfortable for two adults with lots of closet space and a huge shared bathroom. The location is excellent for transit and there are many great restaurants within walking distance. Rachel even prepared coffee and a light breakfast in the mornings - it really was lovely. I would definitely return to Rachel's place the next time I'm in Philly!
Rachel's place was lovely in the up and coming section of Philly. Her place was clean and as described with plenty of parking. Her place is a couple blocks from the subway so it was fairly convenient.
The rooms were just as pictured and the bathroom was amazing with a jacuzzi and separate shower.
We forgot to mention to her that we would have brunch the next morning, since we came back rather late, but she kindly setup a nice breakfast for us anyways (which we had to fore-go to have room for brunch).
Would recommend this place and staying another night!
Rachel and Rob were lovely hosts. They were really friendly, but also left us to ourselves to relax in the room when we were in the house. Their place was really comfortable and personal, and they went about their own lives while we were staying with them so it was really no pressure. Rachel is an artist and has pictures all over the walls which makes the place interesting and feel inviting. She recommended some bars and places to see art around the area. Its a cool area to be situated (bars, restaurants), close to the old town, and also close to the subway. She gave us coffee, juice and a snack in the morning. Great experience!
Great house to stay in! Felt like I was living back in time but with all the conveniences of today! Peaceful, homey, very comfortable!!!! Thanks to Rachel & Rob and caretakers Alan & Peggy, my stay was wonderful! Hope to return Spring 2013!
I have stayed with Rachel and Rob many times and each time I felt like royalty. I have also enjoyed dinner at their house with other guests, delicious meals, comfortable environment and engaging conversation. I would not hesitate to recommend their hospitality to anyone.
I spent a month staying at Villa Roadstown while I was working at the local Nuclear plant. I was a bit nervous going somewhere I did not know anyone, but they made me feel so at home! Rachel & Rob were the ultimate hostess & host! I thoroughly enjoyed my time there & left as friends with both of them. We have since visited them in Fishtown and enjoyed our time hanging out with them. I am hoping to work near their place again to be able to stay there. You would do well to rent from them. Such great people! Thanks Rachel! Hope to see you soon!
Hi, I have stayed at Rachel's place several times and we always enjoy the roominess, comfortable and gracious rooms, with big windows and wonderful light. Great for a family celebration, nice size dining room and big country kitchen. It's a historical property which is very cool. A great place to bring your family for a weekend or even a whole week. Farmland all around near a small historic village with farmstands.
Only an hour to Cape May if you want to go there on daytrips. I had a great time there with my kids and some of my extended family. I felt like a country squire sitting on the screened in porch with my kids!
Rachel Citrino is an artist specializing in printmaking and I met her when we had our work in the same group show. I enjoyed speaking with her in Italian, in which she is fluent. She has shown her work in Italy as well as Philadelphia. She is a lovely, interesting person who would be a wonderful host.
