Enjoy the Nature.
It was a wonderful experience. Thanks for the opportunity.
This place was truly paradise on the beach and I can't wait to stay here again. The view is INCREDIBLE. By opening the doors to the balcony, I felt I was outside when I was just in the living room. The kitchen was well stocked with appliances and there were plenty of towels/sheets/blankets. There were two effective ACs so the place was always cool.
A couple of notes that you should be aware of (that should not be deal breakers):
-Sylvain was not in the area when I rented her place so in order to pick up and drop off the keys I had to drive 15 minutes out of my way to pick them up from a friend of Sylvain's. Arranging this in PR on a roaming phone was a bit tricky.
-The dryer was not very effective but I had no trouble letting my clothes air dry
-The condo is on the 3rd floor (and there are no elevators). The 3 floors make the fantastic view worth it though!
A few things that might be helpful if you stay here/on the West side in PR:
-On the public beach literally right below the condo there is a coral reef you can snorkel in (not great fish viewing here but amazing corals!)
-You can literally access both the beach and pool 24/7
-Purchase a hammock on the side of the road (there are many people selling them) because you can put it up on the balcony (there are hooks).
-The only wifi available is 15 minutes away at the nearest McDonalds (password is McDonalds). All of the local wifi was locked.
-Mayaguez seems to be a place where Puerto Ricano's go to vacation....which means there were few non PR tourists
-Gas (for your car) is pretty inexpensive but milk is $6/gallon
-There is a 24/7 walmart in the mayaguez mall on RT 2 about 15 minutes away from the condo complex.
-There is an open air market every Fri-Sunday evening/night. on RT 2. This is a great place to purchase gifts, etc
-You WILL need a rental car. There is no public transportation. After doing a lot of research, I went with Enterprise and had a good experience with them (they were cheap and reliable)
-The restaurant and grocery places are very similar (note- not cheaper) to those in the continental US.
-Go to Cabo Rojo light house in the south. It was amazing.
In summary, this place was awesome and I would highly recommend staying here!!!!!
This was our second time staying at Leida's place. It's a great apartment and a great location. The balcony is spacious and looks right over the beach, which is beautiful. The apartment was clean and had everything we needed. Leida was always available if we needed anything. We highly recommend this place!
We will come back again!!! We love Leida's place. Location is awesome, right in front of the beach, what more can you ask. Very clean beach, clear waters. Very functional property. we loved waking up in the morning and having breakfast in the balcony. There was always hot water which we didn't really use because puerto rico's water is warm. Ask Leida anything and she responds right away. Very good host.
We enjoyed very much our stay; it felt homey from the very beginning. People should know Leida's place is on the third floor, so just FYI. The apartment was awesome and clean and had everything you needed for an extended stay. We loved the view to the ocean, which you can throw a rock from the balcony and (website hidden) worked great when needed. The kitchen, which we used extensively, was well stocked with all needed pans and bowls, etc, and having the BBQ grill was very nice and much appreciated. The hospitality and extra touches were outstanding. Hot water was never a problem either. The views and ocean were gorgeous, the water temp sublime, and the beach was good, although not outstanding and could use a little cleanup by the apartment association (if there is one). The grocery store nearby was fantastic with everything you need at good prices including wine/beer/rum. The local restaurants were all close and very good especially if you love seafood. A special recommendation to Brises de Joyuda - great staff, super food, good prices, and awesome service. Wonderfully done Leida, and we would definitely stay again!!!!!
One of my favorite trips ever!!!!!! I loved Leida's place. It was cozy, tranquil, and very relaxing. When you open the french doors, and heard the sound of the ocean and felt the cool breeze hitting your face, you couldn't help but chant "Ohm."
She also had everything you needed to make this trip wonderful including access to a kayak! The area also had some of the most beautiful beaches ever. I recommend Playa Sucia by El Faro, Combate Beach in Boqueron, y Playa Santa in Encenada.
Thanks Leida and Airbnd, for making this trip possible from Daniel and Cilvia.
The view is truely spectacular, the balcony is so cool to hang out on. All was as advertised and Leida worked with us for picking up the key. Getting to it was easy.
The pool was under repair but Leida ensured we knew about it before we arrived.
My golf buddies and I enjoyed our own breakfast and then going out to play golf and the west coast golf courses.
My wife and I recently stayed at Leida's place, and it truly is Paradise On The Beach. The gorgeous, low key beach is literally steps from the apartment! I think my favorite part however is the balcony, the apartment is on the third floor so you can sit, enjoy a beverage and just enjoy the ocean and activity below. You literally feel like you could reach out and touch the ocean from the balcony, not to mention that it's facing due west so sunsets are magical.
It really is a great location too, there are lots of great little restaurants nearby. You're not far from Rincon if you want to do a day trip, and not far from the Cabo Rojo lighthouse if you want to check that out.
During our next visit to Puerto Rico (and there will be a next time), we'll definitely see if Leida's place is available. Great place, great location, couldn't ask for more!
The reservation was canceled 61 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
We had a great time at Leida's beachfront condo from 12/31/12 thru 01/04/12.
The apartment was very clean and generally well kept. Besides of course the fantastic location, only a few yards from the water's edge, the fact that the balcony doors could be folded aside completely to bring the outdoors completely in, made a world of difference. We spent most of the time we were at the apt, on that wonderful balcony, enjoying the 180 deg view of the coastline to the north and the expansive Caribbean to the west and south. And what sunsets! (We will forward Leida a picture so she can add it on the property page.)
The apt itself was very bright, with windows all around, and the ocean breeze made it almost unnecessary to use the great room (kit/living) A/C at all. Beds were OK, although could be a little firmer (matter of taste, maybe?).
The semi-private beach was fantastic: calm, warm, clear waters, and very swimmable. There was even someone picking up the seaweed, which usually accumulates in local beaches during this season, in piles every morning, for disposal.
Everything worked well in the kitchen, and yes, there was always hot water. A washing machine and dryer added to the convenience (dryer slow, but, who's in a hurry?). There were even some starter items in the kitchen and bathroom which is always a nice touch.
The community itself is nice and quiet; the access between the apt and the pool, beach and parking very easy. Parking a little bit tight, but I think it's because of some guests/owners who park alongside the driveway.
Oh, I almos forgot! My initial concern that there was no TV vanished fast, as we found ourselves (my 7 and 10 yr old daughters, the wife and yours truly) playing charades nightly on that wonderful balcony, with the soft ocean breeze and the sound of the surf as background. My children were, simply put, absolutely delighted!!!
I highly recommend this nice little apartment in Punta Arenas/Joyuda.
It most definitely is a beautiful place! We stayed for New Year's and it has stunning views of the ocean! We love the tranquility, safe and relaxing location! The condo is well taken care of and clean. I highly recommend it if you want a nice retreat in a tropical island!
I had the chance to stay in this beautiful apartment during the holidays. The apartment is located in a very quiet area. Leida was a fantastic host and she suggested us very good seafood restaurants in the area. The town of Mayaguez is nearby and has some cute restaurants and stores.
