One of my favourite quotes is: "I haven't been everywhere, but it's on my list." - Susan Sontag. When I tell people I'm a teacher and that I love it, one of the most common reactions I get is, "Oh yeah, all that vacation time..." I warn others not to get into teaching for the holidays... but I'll admit, it definitely is a fantastic perk. I take advantage of that time and those around me would consider me well-(enough)-traveled. My experiences have made me respectful and understanding of others and the surroundings I borrow from, or share with, them. I'm the kind of traveler who likes to immerse herself in how the locals live, but I have no problem playing the tourist either. A nice balance of the two is ideal.
