I would NOT recommend Zak as a guest in your home. He is a friendly person with a strong academic and professional background which you would think would make him an ideal guest, but I found him to be a lot of work, demanding, and frankly pretty poorly behaved. I suggest he stays in hotels or puts up the money to stay in very high end accommodation if he chooses to stay in peoples homes. I have never written a bad review, and I host a lot, and travel a lot, so I get it, on both sides- but Zak really went too far on so many levels. Forgive the length- there is much to say. Firstly, his partner was going to stay for part of the time- and I have an additional per night fee in that room as I generally rent it out to one person because it is smaller- (which is why it is inexpensive- clearly the reason he chose it). I suggested we could 'work' something out for the nights she stayed since its either 2 guests for the whole time and they overpay- or 1 guest and maybe he gives me cash as his partner suggested- better for him. He replied and basically said 'great thanks' sort of assuming he would not pay. I sort of let it pass but did notice it. I try to be flexible- and forgiving. It was 60$- I didn't mention it again- but that went unappreciated and he complained until he got what he wanted- a big room for a very low price. He never left the cash. Next we arranged a specific time to meet for check in- with no notice Zak called and said he was almost at the house- almost an hour ahead of the arranged time. I was not ready to meet him and had to rush home. The first thing he did upon entering was to put his hand on the bed and say 'I don't like soft mattresses.' I suggested that there was little I could do at this stage- he had never mentioned it, and, er, this isn't a hotel. But it is an extremely comfy mattress from Crate and Barrel- not cheap. And hey, remember that extra guest fee...so quickly forgotten. Entitled. He more or less complained from the moment he set foot inside- He next said the room was stuffy- though he kept leaving his window closed- its a smaller room as pictured- which is why its reasonably priced- of course it gets stuffy with no window open.On his second night he called me at 11 pm to enquire about parking- again along with the mattress nothing he ever mentioned- but also, pretty inappropriate to call someone you don't know at that hour. Then the internet was being a bit tricky for a few hours so he had to write about that. Fair enough- its just there were so many complaints. I do my best to fix things asap. Then...
Zak's stay was a good one. Easy communication before and during, clean, quiet, friendly. I recommend him to other hosts. And I can honestly say I would welcome him back again because he is returning for a 2nd stay.
Great guest would host again any time.

Zak was a delightful guest. I enjoyed getting to know him . We even got to spend a diner together at a local restaurant . He is smart and very interesting! Very curious and open to the world around him. He was extremely respectful of the house and left everything spotless.
