I booked this listing for a colleague friend of mine. Xing was extremely cooperative, hospitable, and made the whole checking in/checking out process as seamless as possible. The space was LOVELY and located in a fantastic area--perfect for my colleague visiting from New York. Thank you, Xing! Would highly recommend.
The place: A comfortable, convenient "home away from home" at the right price. Clean, roomy, private space.
The owner: Accommodating, affable and adorable ;-)
The verdict: Great affordable alternative to a hotel that lets you feel like you're living in, not just visiting, Shanghai.
This is the first time using this host. The room is nice, and I experiences a great time living in the center of Shanghai.
Xing couldn't have been more friendly or helpful. He even arranged for us to get the keys from a friend since he was out of the country for the first few days. Would gladly stay here again - accommodations are very comfortable.
We spent almost a week at Xing's place. Just like other reviewers said, the location is the best. We had no trouble to get to any directions of the city and the neighborhood is lovely. Xing is helpful and friendly host, We felt very comfortable staying at his place.
If you don't want to stay in the hotel and would like to experience the true color of the local lives in Shanghai, this is a good choice.
The apartment is located in a very nice part of the French Concession area. Close to shopping, food, and easy to get a taxi and explore Shanghai. The host was very nice and helpful, he was hardly home too (work) so it even felt like we (girlfriend and I) had the place all to ourselves! The apartment is well distributed and the guest room is upstairs and tucked away from the rest of the apartment.
The furniture was comfortable, the bed was comfortable, the AC worked really well, and that matters because it can get pretty hot and muggy in Shanghai during the summer months.
Anyway for getting to know Shanghai the apartment seemed pretty centrally located. If you want to get a haircut theres only about a million places within a two block radius. Sherpa's food delivery service can deliver to this place, which we found out on a day that was too hot to do anything so we just stayed in and speshed out.
what else can i tell you??? I was glad i spent my money on Xing's place instead of having to deal with a lot of people. It made the trip simple and our time spent in Shanghai genuine, as if i was already an expat living in the french concession. Xing is a pretty easy going mellow guy and was prompt in answering my calls for help and guidance around the city or with anything having to do with the apartment, as in when I forgot the keys! We woke up late and missed our flight too but thats because we felt too comfortable and overslept.
Xing has a washer and dryer and maid service too! bring your own pots, the kitchen is ready! Xing is the man!
I stayed here in June 2010 for a week, and I cannot praise it enough.
The apartment is absolutely gorgeous, nicely furnished, brand-new appliances, all kinds of amenities (wifi, air conditioning, maid service, etc), in a typical Shanghai lane house. (The not-so fashionable house's hallway adds to the flavor. And you'll be in for a pleasant surprise once you get to the floor of the apartment.)
The location is great, in a very nice part of the French Concession: a tree-lined street, convenience store on the street corner, various bus lines departing right outside the lane houses, and the Metro line 10 Jingtiao University stop only a 5-10 minute walk away. I found it a relief not to stay in the bustling Bund area, the Old City, or on one of the major thoroughfares in the Eastern part of the French Concession- it's comparably quiet here, almost idyllic, and you'll find nice boutiques, restaurants, bars (gay and straight) in this area. Even if you don't know any Chinese like I do, its location close to a well-known intersection with easy-to-pronounce street names makes it very easy to get there by cab. :-)
Last but not least, the host is very friendly and gave me very helpful and valuable suggestions for my stay in Shanghai.
You'll be sure to have a great stay here.
Great Cheerful tenant that kept our apartment in fantastic condition!
I did not have a chance to meet personally Xing but from the email exchange he is very nice and friendly and he enjoyed his stay, he is welcome back anytime.
