I grew up on the Island of Hawaii but left for many years after graduating from high school. I lived in Europe for 17 years. After returning I bought my grandparents' sweet plantation house in Kukuihaele above the majestic Waipio Valley and love living here surrounded by peace and beauty.
I am a "local" of Japanese, Filipino, and Caucasian descent. I am the father of 6 beautiful children (4 of them grown) and 6 grandkids.
In addition to owning the hostel and vacation rental business, I own a Wellness business, and I work full time as the operations manager at the North Hawaii Education and Research Center (NHERC), a branch of the University of Hawaii at Hilo. NHERC's Heritage Center might interest you if you want to learn more about the history of Hamakua and North Hawaii.
