Fatima was away so her father met us at the ferry terminal and guided us to the house. Her mother and father showed us everything, and left us fresh eggs, home made jam, and goodies - much appreciated. They don't speak English, and we don't speak more than a few words of Portuguese. The house is in a quiet neighborhood on a side street. It's what I imagine is a typical Portuguese house and yard, so it felt genuine. Reasonably well equipped, and clean. Note that it doesn't have internet. We ran into a problem the first evening with no hot water, and tried to text Fatima (we got a Portuguese sim card when we arrived) but her number is a Canadian one. So we had to go into Sao Roque at the visitor info centre to get wireless to send her a message that evening. There were delays in her responding, due to the Azores/Canada time zone difference, so the hot water wasn't fixed until the next afternoon. So I would recommend the house, but recommend asking Fatima if she will be on the island during your rental for real time support, or what other arrangements can be made.
Fatima's parents are very friendly. The place is, as it is described, an OLD stone house. Bathroom is tiny. The kitchen is not that well-equipped, a bit more (and cleaner) pots and pans would be useful. There are many ants and other little animals in the house, no matter how you try to keep them out. Also, the rooms aren't that clean. All in all, it is too expensive for what it is.
Fatima made us very welcome and her mother had left us some nice goodies. The house is absolutely delightful, very quaint and restful. The position was perfect for us, and we abandoned any idea of cooking at home to eat in the friendly bar at the end of the road with its delightful views. You do need a car, but walkers might want to take a taxi to the lake - Largoa do Capital - and then walk about 2km to the marked walk that passes the house. We were very happy here.
My friends and I stayed for 2 nights at Fatima's place on Pico island. We were welcomed by her parents at the ferry terminal of Pico. Although our language problems they were extremely friendly and welcoming! We told them we would be climbing Pico mountain and they warned us to get out early and make sure we had enough water and food. Her mother even brought us some water as the shops would not be open when we would start climbing.
Also the option of renting Fatima's car is a benefit. We had some difficulties renting cars on other islands due the summer season.
The house is what it looks like on the pictures. It has two nice bedrooms and a good garden area with benches. Nearby there is a small pub as well.
Thanks again Fatima for your parents welcome and I can recommend the house!
I can not recommend this place. The bathroom was not the one shown on the pictures, the shower didn't work probably, the laundry machine didn't work and the floor in the room was dirty. Fatima told me to move out and she would refund the money and now there are also problems with that.
There's lots to like about the flat - its clean and airy, two bathrooms, comfortable living room and nice balconies. There's a nice sunny kitchen and you can use the fridge, cooking facilities and washing machine if needed. I shared the flat with a tourism student who lives in the flat weekdays. She was friendly.
Check in was the only down side - waiting an hour and a half to get into the apartment and another hour whilst a key was cut, loo paper bought and a pillow sorted out.
Despite the initial hiccup I would recommend the apartment. Once Fatima was aware I was waiting and what was needed, she made sure everything was sorted out. Thank you.
The reservation was canceled 13 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
We stayed four nights at Fatimas place, and it was vary nice. The house is big enough for four people, with a nice kitchen and living area. Outside is a fire place as well as a kitchen area with some furnitures to sit on. Everything was nice and clean, the communication was good and we really enjoyed our stay.
