I'm a retired Classics Professor; taught at University of Georgia for 32 years. I'm in Cincy right now helping my rather aged mother (98 1/2). I love the cabin and enjoy sharing it with the kinds of folks who will appreciate it.

A great private getaway. A wonderful deck right on a rushing mountain stream. A perfect mix of the rustic; an older quirky cabin, no TV, no traffic, no neighbors in sight, but with a fully functional nice kitchen and even decent cell service (verizon).
Nancy's directions were clear and she answered all our questions.
Loved the cabin. We were well aquatinted with it by the time we left because sadly a low pressure system decided to camp atop the blue ridge and it rained almost the entire time we were there. Our planned outdoor adventures were thwarted but the cabin was a great venue for lots of games and stories and several good books. A great place to get lost for a few days. We loved the stream deck. When it was not raining that is where we were!
My husband and I were seeking a place to escape the city for a week with our dogs. Jake's Cabin was perfect--rustic yet still offering some modern amenities. Everything was all ready for us when we arrived. The cabin was very clean and cozy with plenty of room for a whole family. The updated kitchen was great and it opens up to one of the three decks on the property. The creek running alongside the property is the best part and the wonderful back deck offered needed solitude. It was where we spent our mornings with our cups of coffee while our pups explored the creek. We used the fireplace as the evenings did get chilly. (Note: The Mobil gas station on Rt. 276 just past Rt. 110 has firewood.) Nancy was a great host and very responsive. She is not on-site but available over email and text. She was also able to offer places to shop for groceries and other sights to see in the area. Just ask!
You can count on not having any cell phone signal in the cabin or within a couple miles radius so be prepared! Bring a map, books, board games, etc. and enjoy being unplugged from the world. From the cabin, you are about 30-45 minutes away from shops and restaurants in Waynesville (Frog Level Historic District is a nice area) and Asheville (Biltmore Estate is a must-see but on a weekday to avoid crowds). The Blue Ridge Parkway is also nearby and from which you can access various hiking trails. We got adventurous and also drove out to see the the old growth trees at Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest. Around the time we were there, the leaves were just starting to change and the air was getting crisp. A beautiful time to be in the Blue Ridge Mountains!
All in all, if you are looking for an semi-rustic escape to the mountains and don't mind a bit of driving to get to some sights, Jake's Cabin is the place you are looking for. We look forward to getting back down there again.
This is a wonderful place to enjoy the woods and still have the comforts of home!
The cabin was such a delight. We loved that we could hear the sound of the rushing creek when we had the windows open in the cabin, and it was such a treat to sit on the deck overlooking the water. The cabin was comfortable and well-stocked with anything we could have needed. Nancy provided clear directions on getting there and made the whole process very easy. Thanks for a truly wonderful week!
The setting is truly lovely, the bedrooms are cozy, and the freshly updated kitchen is well equipped. Jake's Cabin is perfect for a peaceful getaway in the mountains!
My wife and I joined another married friends of ours to take the 4th as a getaway. Jake's Cabin was a fantastic choice for all of our needs. Rustic, authentic, and pure ecstasy. If you are seeking to get away from the hullabaloo of the city, screaming technology, and stress of work, this is your place.
My wife and I stayed at Jake's cabin April 13-16, and had a wonderful, peaceful, relaxing time. The trout stream is directly behind the house, and the deck makes for easy fishing. Yes, the trout are there waiting to be caught. I left a couple. We ran into a "big chill", but the fireplace was a savior. The location is what makes this cabin perfect. No neighbors, dead end road, and within an hours drive of Asheville. The Blue Ridge Parkway is minutes away, and the ride down 276 S. to Brevard has a number of great nature/outdoor attractions. This is a great place for an electronics-free vacation where conversation and a good book work better than any therapy. Nancy is a wonderful host, and the cabin has all the conveniences of home. We definitely recommend this property for a vacation getaway.

Nancy was wonderful to coordinate with and provided us with all the details we needed for our stay. The cabin was clean, spacious and had a rustic and modern feel. All the amenities that one would hope for and located right off hwy 276 in the heart of PNF. We were here for the week climbing at Looking Glass rock and will definitely be in touch next time we come to climb. Thanks for everything Nancy!
