I am a retired P.E. teacher. Bob, my partner, is a retired geologist/glaciologist. We like to bike, kayak, social dance, hike and read a lot. And, we are tidy and quiet.

We could not believe how perfect this place was. Wonderful cozy cabin with windows looking out at forest and the sound. We saw kingfishers and herons and bats from the windows, heard frogs, saw a meteor shower. It was so quiet and peaceful and private. The yard is gorgeous- perfect for tag and hide and seek with my five year old. We roasted fresh rhubarb from the garden and had fresh thyme, oregano, chives and tarragon from the garden on our eggs and beans. The kitchen is well set up for cooking and we ate almost all our breakfasts and dinners there at a big wood table with fantastic view. One dinner we ate at the nearby Doe Bay Cafe which was absolutely excellent. During the days we went out to the nearby state parks for some spectacular hikes. This was our first trip with our 5 week old daughter and we will remember it fondly for the rest of our lives. Really could not have been more perfect.
Everything was exactly as we had hoped. There was a very cozy and calming atmosphere about the house (and fresh flowers throughout - a great touch!), and there was also plenty to explore in the garden. One of our favorite activities was sitting at the dinner table watching finches and other birds visit the bird feeder.
Also, we made most of our meals at Nadine's home and found the kitchen cookware/supplies to be more than ample (I didn't expect a food processor nor a vegetable peeler, for instance!). Unless you have a very specific need (we brought a small rice cooker, for instance), you probably can pack light.
Thanks, Nadine, for making our stay possible!
Winterpond is the most wonderful place to stay. Orcas Island is beautiful, and to find this wonderful house to stay in was like frosting on the cake! I knew I was going to have a wonderful stay as soon as I pulled up to the gate and got my first look at the house and property. Nadine has created a wonderful place to rest, rejuvenate and relax. Every care has been taken to provide her guests with all the comforts of home...or more! Comfortable places to sit, a kitchen equipped with everything you could need, a wonderful wall speaker sound system and music choices, fluffy robes to lounge in, a very comfortable bed that looks out onto the water and trees, and a very comfortable bathroom. The weather was so glorious that I didn't need to use the wood stove, but it is there for those cold nights. The yard is huge and impressive. Fully mature tress surround the house and make you feel like you are alone in your own universe. The pond is a wonderful feature, and I was woken one morning to the sounds of ducks enjoying the water. I also fell asleep to the sound of frogs...lovely! Winterpond sits at the top of a hill with an amazing view down to the water. I spent quite a bit of time in the comfortable bedroom chair simply staring out at the view. The only thing the house doesn't have are the groceries you will want, and I found the store in East Sound to have an excellent selection. East Sound also has wonderful shops highlighting local artist's work, a pub full of atmosphere and a wonderful library. I will definitely be staying at Winterpond again. What I can tell you is that you will be SO sorry if you only book one night....once you experience how enchanting Winerpond is you will wish you never had to leave.
Just as charming and delightful as the pictures suggest! A perfect get-away for two. Bring food and things to cook - the house kitchen is nice, and it's easy not to leave for the whole weekend. I've stayed here twice now, waking up to the sound of birds outside the kitchen, and falling asleep to the gentle spring rains.
I would recommend this quiet, serene home to anyone looking for a getaway. It has beautiful views and a nice homey feel! Nadine knows how to host and is very hospitable! My wife and I had a lovely week!!!
We just had the most amazing AirBnB experience I could have ever dreamed of! Nadine is a kind, communicative, and helpful host, and her home on Orcas was truly perfect: peaceful, beautiful, comfortable. My only complaint was that we had to go home!
I'm not sure where to start with Winterpond - what a beautiful home! It is everything other reviewers said which led to our booking Winterpond for a weekend in the PNW. It's the perfect escape from city living, perfectly quiet and serene. It's remote but easily in driving distance of Eastsound, with plenty of options for restaurants. We spent much of our time on Orcas hiking nearby at Moran State Park. We cooked several meals in home, enjoyed the view from the front porch, and just plain enjoyed Nadine's home. We wish we had stayed more than two nights! You will be sad to leave - highly, highly recommended staying at Winterpond. Charming, relaxing, serene and plenty of opportunity for activities on the island. We were spoiled by starting our vacation here and then heading into Seattle (hotels just seem wrong after you've stayed at Winterpond). You must see for yourself!
Thank you for your kind review and leaving my house so nice.
Our stay at Nadine's home on Orcas Island was lovely. It was as much a pleasure relaxing inside or on the deck as it was to hike in nearby Moran state park. The decor was lovely, the landscaping natural and thoughtful, and the location perfectly remote for a weekend away.
Everything was as I expected from Nadine's communication and the stay was stress free.
Simply put, I love this place. The space is beautiful and obviously well taken care of. The plot of land the home is on is quiet and secluded. Myself and my companion arrived late in the evening to a roaring fire that instantly made us feel at home. The large windows in the bedroom allowed for great star gazing and a warm light to wake us up in the morning. We utilized the great sound system (in wall sound, CD player, record player, and iPod jack), enjoyed a movie in the living room, and watched the birds over our meals in the dining room. The kitchen is well stocked with cooking supplies and the gas stove works perfectly. Nadine provided directions on how to use everything in the home (even tips on starting the best fire), and maps and brochures on things to do on the island. Overall the weekend was great thanks in large part to our stay in this beautiful home. Nadine is a great host and I would come back in a heartbeat (and have already recommended the place to friends!).
Nadine's home was everything I had hoped for and more. I love that it is tucked away and the hills, and although there are neighbors nearby, you feel like you are completely alone. Her house was gorgeous, I never wanted to leave. Nadine was available by phone and email, and gave nice suggestions of restaurants and things to do. I would go back in a heartbeat!
Nadine was a great guest. We didn't get to meet, but she was very easy to communicate with via messaging and left my studio in great condition. I would happily welcome her back.
Absolutely no communication skills. We had no idea that she had issues finding things to do in Colombo. We are in a central location an all you need to do is ask. She left us a negative review which we will take seriously and strive to address to our ability.
It was a pleasure to host Nadine and her husband at Villa Shenandoah. They were a really friendly couple. We wish to see them with us again.

Nadine and Bob were clean, respectful, trustworthy guests. I sure hope they come back and stay with us!
Nadine and Bob were fantastic guests! Clean and cordial, and I'd have them back anytime!
Nadine is the best, and Winterpond is amazing! My partner and I have both stayed there several times, and it was magical. Nadine has thought lots about what would make a guest happy, and she works hard to make everything just right.
