I'm an avid traveler, originally from NYC, who enjoys good music, good food, and good beds. I'm pursuing a career in hospitality, and I love the great opportunities Airbnb opens up for travelers and hosts alike.

Red House is conveniently located within walking distance to downtown. Room was clean. We arrived on Thanksgiving day and there seemed to be some misunderstanding because his roommate didn't know that we are coming. Nevertheless everyone was friendly.
David's place was nice and cozy. It reminded me of staying back at home in my old room. There was a lot of people coming and going but everyone was friendly and accommodating. Long live the Red House.
Where to begin! David was quick to respond to my questions regarding location/house rules/etc before arriving. His hospitality skills are outta this world (ask him to tell you about his travels & hospitality work!) and I felt very comfortable in his cozy home. He made me the most marvelous breakfast scramble and let me choose between that and pancakes (so kind!!), coffee. While chatting through breakfast I realized I had left my wallet at a friends and he even offered to drive me over! We got a zipcar and zipped across town for a fun, kind-of misadventure to recover my wallet. David also was gracious enough to help me with my bags on my way to the bus stop. I met a few of his roommates and they were also friendly. The location was wonderful, and staying in the red house was a glorious cherry-on-top, to end my sunny, fall portland trip. Will definitely stay here again and recommend it to other weary travelers :-)
David's room in the Red house was great! The house was immaculately clean, bed was very comfortable and David was a fantastic host, definitely one of the best I've experienced so far with Airbnb! I arrived late on Saturday night and he was up to let me in. We hung out for a bit, he's full of great info about Portland and also is just great company. There are 6 people living in the house but I only met one other roommate, it was pretty quiet both during the night and the next morning. It seems like a big place with a lot of space for everyone.
David goes above and beyond for his guest - he takes care of the tiniest details and even left some welcome chocolates on the bed. In the morning he made me his signature pancakes and went out of his way to save me a trip on public transport by driving me to the airport. I would recommend this place to anyone and will definitely stay here again if I'm back in Portland. Thanks David!
Classical American House. Nice young ambience community. Hospitality great. All basic needs included. Special touch as well.
David was a great host and even gave me a ride to the house when it was really cold and blustery. Warm and comfortable bed in a nice, quiet room. Excellent location, walking distance to downtown. Thanks for a great stay!
David was very welcoming and easy to get a hold of. Even though he was out of town during my stay, he made sure that his roommates were available and that I had everything I needed. The Red House is 60 seconds from the bus stop and David volunteered his bike for my use. The neighborhood felt safe and was only a few bus stops from downtown. David also shared with me an app to download that let me buy bus tickets and check schedules for the Portland area. I never ran into any bathroom sharing conflicts and the bedroom has its own lock/key. Overall, I felt secure and well taken care of.
David was a very welcoming host and helpful. It was a pleasure to get to know him and chat with him. I enjoyed staying in Drew's room. The Red House is only about a 5-10 minute drive from downtown Portland, so it was quite a convenient location.
David was a great host even before I arrived. He replied quickly to my inquiries and was flexible holding my reservation. He also offered to pick me up from the airport late at night, and provided a couple of towels and a new bath sponge. Sheets were clean, the room was organized enough and wi-fi speed was very good. I was in town for a conference and the house was very conveniently located (10-12 minute bus ride to downtown, and the bus stop is a few steps away).
I was a bit worried when David told me that 6 people live in the house, expecting that a house with young people would be noisy in the evenings. I was out of the house the whole day during my stay, but that was not a problem at all. I only heard some noise on Saturday night until a bit late, but nothing unmanageable. I didn't walk around the house much, didn't use any common area and didn't have any meal in the house (which was offered by David). The room is functional and enough for what I needed. You can tell someone stays in the room when it is no occupied, but that was not a problem. I don't think you have any drawers available, so I just kept things in my suitcase and there is room in the closet. The bathroom is outside of the room, it is clean, and hot water pressure is good; other people might use it, but I never ran into anyone. I didn't receive a key to the house or my room (and didn't ask for it). I found the house unlocked every time I returned, and I didn't feel the need to lock my room. The only reason I wish I had a room key is because I locked myself out a couple of times. David was home both times and he was quick to come and open the door for me.
Only downside is that you can tell this is a house of smokers as you walk through the door. The room itself is not that bad, though.
Overall, I would consider staying here again if I cannot afford a hotel and I am traveling alone. The room is convenient and comfortable. What the house lacks in fanciness, David makes up for hospitality, a very good attitude and a nice conversation.
David was a great host and the Red House is a really cool place to stay. He helped us out figuring out things to do around Portland and how to get around + he makes a mean blueberry pancake. Staying here definitely added to the Portland experience. Also you can't beat the location of the place, we walked downtown every day along the river.
Grand guest. Recommended.
David was very relaxed and easy going and we had some really stimulating and lively conversation. He was clean and very respectful and I would recommend him as a guest to anyone
