Overall, I enjoyed staying at this place. This apartment is located very conveniently close to a tram stop for trams number 12, 13, and 14, all of which are very useful. I suggest that you obtain a free museum map from one of the major museums, such as the Rijksmuseum, as it will show not only the locations of the museums but the tram lines and where they run. Tram number 12 will take you to the Museumplein, where the Rijksmuseum (treasures of Dutch art; superb), Van Gogh (quite good), and Stedelijk (modern art and design; disappointing) are all located. I also suggest that you purchase a Museumkaart if you plan on seeing a number of museums, as it will save you a lot of money. I believe that it can be purchased at any of the major museums for ~50 euros.
If you choose not to use the tram, which can take you to Museumplein and the nearby Leidseplein (center of dining and nightlife) in about 15 minutes, you can walk and it will take you about 30 minutes of brisk walking. Be careful of the bicycles!!! They have their own bike lanes and there are 2 of them on every street. These lanes are also used by rocketing motorbikes and scooters.
There is a beautiful large green area behind the apartment and it is very refreshing and pleasant to have it there.
For more fastidious travelers, I should mention that there were a few funky aspects about the place. It seemed that the owner, Sanne, simply walked out in preparation for my arrival, without removing anything from the refrigerator, closets, or drawers. So there are not very many places to hang or put your clothing. There was also not that much space in the refrigerator. I've seen cleaner bathrooms.
The kitchen was very well-stocked with cooking utensils, except I did not find any large soup pots, citrus juicer or dishwasher. The mattress was very comfortable, as was the duvet, which was very warm. The gas heater in the front great room was quite efficient at healing that room, but not the back bedroom at all. Fortunately, the duvet was sufficiently warm that a cold bedroom suited me well.
Another concern was that Sanne was surprisingly unavailable to meet me upon my arrival. It was fortunate that my US Verizon SIM card was functional in permitting me to receive emails. Otherwise, I would not have known to go next door to the Turkish restaurant to get my keys. I was able to exchange SMS texts with her, but I never did speak with her by telephone or meet her in person.
Overall a good stay. Sanne was very accommodating when things weren't quite working, and for the most part everything went smoothly. It was a little inconvenient to have to constantly use the kitchen sink (only one in the apartment) to wash up, but it is manageable for a few days.
It's very easy to get to by tram - literally less than 1 minute walk from the front door to the tram stop which can take you to Centraal station in about 15 minutes. The apartment itself is also very close to a supermarket and some small restaurants.
good location and easy to get downtown in few minutes the host has been very friendly and the balcony in the back with the birds singing is a must...you have everything around. I don't know why but we had a problem with internet.Don't hesitate
to go to her place
GREAT APARTMENT! It's in a central spot, the closest you can get to tram-stop, very close to a canal. We spent a lot of time in there because it was raining and it was a great stay. The place is very clean and quiet. There is a well equipped kitchen and a big bedroom with a view to an awesome garden!
The bathroom is a little crowded and there's no sink in it, but it wasn't much of a problem (and its common thing in the NL).
Sanne was really nice. She welcomed us at the house and let us use all we want at the apartment.
Very nice and cozy apartment, with good access to the trams.
We really enjoyed having a beautiful balcony looking onto a small park, and how quite it was.
I stayed with three friends for 4 nights and we all loved it. It's in a great location, right in the heart of amsterdam. There was a lovely little fruit shop across the street and plenty of other great eateries close by. The apartment itself is gorgeous, a lot bigger than it looks! Would highly recommend staying at Sannes' place.
First of all thanks to Sanne for being so kind to host us at night, while the late check in time was caused with our flight arrival. She previously described all the transport details, so it was pretty easy to find the apartment. Also Sanne prepared a few notes with main sights and events for the current week.
The apartment is fine, it's cosy, clean, bright and furnished in nice manner. All the basic options are included: washing machine, wireless internet connection, cable TV and so on - and it's all for a very good price.
But the most pleasant surprise for me was the sound system (the sound settings are good for minimal, lounge, tech house and other electronic genres with deep bass and light beats), so if anyone wants to have a permanent sountrack there would be no problem with that - just connect your mp3 to the spekers and you'll have it =)
The apartment is located in a nice quite district in 50 meters to tram stop, so you can reach the city center (Dam Squre) in about 7-10 minutes.
The house is in a very convenient location (the area is very quiet) to reach the center of the city. It's a very typical dutch house with all the pros and cons (the bathroom doesn't have a sink, you'll use the one in the kitchen). Overall it's a very cozy house where you'll feel like at home.
Sanne's place is awesome! Great one bedroom apartment in a nice quiet neighborhood not far from major city area and sightseeing spots. The tram is conveniently just a few feet away from her apartment and very easy to use!
Sanne was also sweet enough to write down a few events that were going on that weekend. She even offers her own laptop for use and has perfect wifi conncetion.
Lastly, did I mention that you get the whole apartment for that price!! Overall, great deal and great experience in Amsterdam!
Sanne was super sweet, calm and nice. No problems at all.
