I enjoyed staying at Teddy's place so much, that I decided to return on my way back home from my roadtrip. This time, I got to meet friends of his that were staying with him, who I enjoyed meeting and I enjoyed that incredible huge hot tub in the conservatory. I felt very at home here, and would return anytime.
Teddy is a wonderful host. He and his sweet dog Zula made me feel welcomed as soon as I arrived. He was very accommodating, and generous with his home. He was very respectful of my privacy, while at the same time making me feel that he was available if I ever needed anything. He even took me on a nice hike on his wooded property. I loved staying in the pyramid. It's a great place for a retreat and to connect to nature. I only stayed for 2 nights, as I was just passing through on my way from Tampa, FL to Austin, TX. I wish I could've stayed longer, and am considering returning on my way back south! This home and property are so unique and peaceful. And I fell in love with Zula... She's a doll, a very adorable and loyal pup. The property was a short, quiet drive into Tallahassee and I drove into town one day to eat lunch at this amazing restaurant called Kool Beanz Cafe. Highly recommended!
I so very much enjoyed having you stay with us. You are an ideal guest.
I had a great time at Teddy's. It's a lovely and really special, unique space. It's more than a home, it's a nexus for progressives! It also seems a bit of a hub for folks interested in alternative lifestyle of the post-Grateful Dead music festival scene, lots of folks who love bands like Rising Appalachia and String Cheese Incident.
While I was there for 4 days, a number of other guests came and went, so there was a fair amount of communal cooking a food/drink sharing, so I ate well! And I am eternally grateful to Alexis for her leadership in creating the meals.
There is a truly beautiful shower/hottub/sauna area downstairs. I enjoyed that tremendously. It's awesome!
I know someone else in a review complained about the cleanliness. I really don't see the problem. I think maybe they found the setup unusual and couldn't handle it. But dirty it is NOT. The shower was clean and made of lovely slate that seems designed to handle water. My bedding was clean and comfy. It's clearly not brand new--but that isn't the kind of place this is. This place is about chilling out and being comfortable in a somewhat communal situation. It's not a private room at a hotel.
I stayed on the sleeping porch, so I can't speak to the other accommodations, which are all more separate than the place I stayed. What I loved about the sleeping porch was the spectacular views and the fantastic outdoor, exposed sleeping experience. I heard owls galore every night. But you shld know it's not protected from outdoors, no windows, etc. So birds and bugs can come around, there's no heat or AC. So if you can handle it, then it's great. It got pretty cold one night when I was there but the blankets provided are so warm I wld never have known it was 45 degrees out!
My only real caution about the sleeping porch is that it is directly above the main porch, so if anyone is out there talking, you'll hear them. And I definitely had a couple moments where that was a little difficult. But the place is beautiful enough that it wasn't too big a deal for me. All told, it was more than totally worth it! I especially think if you are attracted to or part of the kind of lifestyle Teddy and Alexis participate in, this place will be a great find--maybe even a godsend--for you! You'll never want to leave!
This was simply one of the most amazing relaxing weekend destinations I have ever experienced. Teddy and Alexis were amazing, the house was beautiful, from the jacuzzi to the deck to a massage in the massage room at the top of the pyramid. Just can't put it all into words.
Visiting this pyramid retreat made me feel like I was stepping into another world. It was so different than the world I experience every day in my corporate busy lifestyle. I embraced it all and had no problem just letting go and doing some soul searching. As soon as we pulled off the main road and saw the little driveway where the home was tucked away, I knew it would be something special. My favorite thing was sitting by the water with my husband looking at the clear night sky and all the stars which I never see at home in the city with all the light pollution. I loved exploring the property with so many areas to retreat to such as hiking trail, garden, gypsy wagon, porch, water, hammock, and meditation statues. I loved taking a semi outdoor shower in the sun room. The shower made of rock felt so natural and brought out my inner cave woman! It was nice that we had our own entrance for bedroom and bathroom without having to enter main house. If you are looking for a cookie cutter hotel that meets all your standards, this is not the place for you. If you want to open your mind to new experiences and a different way of living, do not pass up this opportunity.
Our hosts were very welcoming. The accommodations were satisfactory. The bed mattress left a little to be desired if you desire a new and firm mattress. The accommodations and site was not your every day house and our neighborhood which made our visit very nice and on the adventure side. My son and I were visiting the area for FSU Parents Weekend. We enjoyed using the rope swing and swimming in he very refreshing crystal clear spring on site immediately adjoining our room. The site was very remote and 15 miles fork the Capital building however a very easy and nice commute.
Teddy was a very polite person and we appreciated the interesting and majestic setting. However, we did have a less than desirable experience. After traversing the increasingly narrow dirt/gravel driveway (at the end of a long unpaved road where limbs scraped up our car once we finally made it to his property) and yelling "hello" and knocking for several minutes, he greeted us wearing only a towel, which very much surprised us.
If we had known him previously, it may have been different, but we were strangers...in the middle of the woods with no cell phone service, and it was uncomfortable and gave us reason to pause. More notably, the cleanliness of the place and bedding was questionable and the shower was absolutely unacceptably dirty. My girlfriend wouldn't even touch the shower (which is exposed to the open air atrium room that his own bedroom connects to) and I cautiously showered with flip-flops, my own soap and tower, constantly wondering if I was going to get sick or be seen. We didn't have an alternative place to stay for the first night, so we purchased our own blankets to cover the bed with so we could at least sleep with some confidence. We figured we'd have an open mind and give it a whirl. Afterall, the place is on a beautiful piece of land with gorgeous freshwater spring, and Teddy seemed like a kind and gentle spirit, indeed. He offered us food and coffee and gave us a tour of his estate. I did want to hear more about him and his pyramid. However, we simply require and recommend a minimum standard of cleanliness and those reasonable expectations were unfortunately not met.
A friend and I met up at Teddy's for a quick, but much needed girls night from opposite sides of the state. I just wish our schedules would have allowed us to stay longer. We spent most of our time down on the water and up on the porch, but there are places to relax and reflect hidden all over the property. Teddy and the other guests were all wonderfully accommodating.
Teddy was very gracious and wonderful as a host. We made a new friend. This is an amazing home built in concert with a very unusual and wondrous natural location. The room was very comfortable. We swam in the clean cool water of the pond ...just an incredible, magical place.
Great location ! Teddy was perfect and we love the house. Thank you !
