The farm was interesting, accommodations good, hostess friendly and helpful, breakfasts delicious.
This was my first time staying with an Airbnb host and I'm happy to say it was a great experience! Fran was a wonderful hostess and I really enjoyed my short stay. Breakfast was wonderful and filling, my bed was unbelievably comfortable, the house was full of beautiful aromas from soap making, the farm and all its denizens are totally charming, and the backdrop of the country was beautiful. I wish I could have stayed longer! Fran & Hollis have built a beautiful working farm, and I was lucky to experience a small part of it briefly!
Fran made me feel very welcome and I loved the atmosphere of the farm.
Fran and Hollis are extraordinary hosts in an extraordinary place. I got lost on the way and they were able to talk me through, even though it was inconveniently late at night. I wish I could have stayed longer, and will certainly be back!
Going to Franny's is always something I look forward to. 3rd time staying and each time I want to go back as soon as possible.
When I arrived, Fran was calling the goats for their noontime cookies. You will be impressed with her command of the 13 goats who came in from the hills. Staying at the farm is an experience. I had the entire upstairs to myself with a private bathroom and shower. It's very quiet at night and you can come and go as you wish. I like the site, since it was about 5 miles north of Dryden just into Cortland County and I didn't want to stay at a hotel while doing some work at Cornell. The drive to and from was gorgeous -- about 20 minutes to campus. I'm also a cyclist and did some cycling on my last day. The house is a farmhouse, i.e., not the Statler on campus, but if you're reading this, you're not looking for a hotel. I will return, if circumstances allow. I got to meet Stella, the pig, SamSam, the dog, and saw Jill and Caroline, two of goats, in action. I wish I had met the horses, since they looked quite beautiful out in the field.
Fran and Hollis, her husband, were very accommodating and friendly. Fran, originally from the NYC area, has the spunk and grit of a real farm girl which she's become I guess, and she and Hollis work hard with chores that seem never to end.
If you are looking for an authentic farm experience, spend a day or two at Fran's farm. The place is very comfy, the setting is great and you will really get a feel for the hard work that goes into running a farm. Fran was great at giving us a tour, explaining her work and introducing us to her animals. I even assisted to the milking of the goats! She made us a delicious frittata and we just wished we could have staid a little longer!
Fran's farm was great, she made us feel so welcome, the area is gorgeous, and our kids couldn't get enough of the animals. The goats in particular. Also, very close to the wonders of Ithaca.
I was traveling for business and decided to drag my husband and two adult daughters along, to stay on Fran's farm during weekend preceding my business trip. What a surprise mini-vacation we all had! The only regrets are that due to the focusing on business trip planning, I did not bring my hiking boots, and the second one - we did not take our grandson with us. In any case, this farm is amazing, and the hosts, Fran and Hollis are wonderful. We had a great time, and I was invigorated and rested enough to be ready the next day to start a business week. Fran is a great cook, and she treated us with delicious supper and breakfast. I will definitely be back, with adults and children from my family. Thank you, Fran and Hollis!
Ole Miss Franny's Farm is an absolutely fabulous place to visit and explore. There is hiking, riding, comfy beds, adorable critters, great conversation and FANTASTIC food! Fran has been my horseback riding instructor, mentor and friend for as long as I can remember. Fran is a fantastic teacher, hostess, farmer, and maybe best of all, cook. Fran's food can rival five-star chefs. When we lived in Brooklyn, I would always go to her with the dishes I had fallen in love with at fancy restaurants, and she would try to replicate them. It never worked perfectly- after a little tweaking and experimenting Fran was creating dishes INFINITELY better than the restaurant. Fran is, and always has been one of the most welcoming, open and authentic people I have know. Her farm, home, animals, friends and guests are extensions of that, and very quickly become family. Some like to work hard and play hard- and there is plenty to do on Fran's farm. Others need quiet, restorative peace- either way, Fran reads people very well and will give any range of guests exactly the kind of stay they want and need.
Fran and Hollis are amazing people. Fran was my horseback riding instructor for many years and a great friend. When I visited the farm, she immediately put me to work helping her build her raised beds, but in return I was fed delicious meals and all the snacks I could find, pampered with homemade soaps, given free reign to frolic with the goats, and ride my favorite horse Dave. Fran just amazes me with her knowledge of farming, animal husbandry, glass making, horses, you name it. She's also a born storyteller, though I do admit to letting my attention wander on occasion. Hollis is the nicest and most laid back person you'll ever meet. You will have a great time at Ole Miss Franny's Farm.
Fran was my horseback-riding instructor for many years and has become a close friend. I’ve never met anyone more devoted and in tune with animals and the natural world around them. While she fit in perfectly in the arts and equestrian communities in New York City, she is truly in her element on the beautiful farm she now calls home. As a host she is attentive but not overbearing. Delicious food, incredible landscapes and many laughs are a few of the things that define a visit to Fran’s farm and are the reasons I cannot wait until I have a chance to return.
