I like having visitors and meeting new people.
If you want to like this place as much as we did, you should be someone who enjoys living in a quiet and civilized village with easy access to the beach and great hiking routes, and who finds fun in experiencing all sides of the Hong Kong transportation system, a necessary part to feel the pulse of the city. We came to HK from Beijing on our visa run and absolutely loved the city and our temporary residence in Lantau. Cecilie is a wonderful host in all respects, she provides maps, bus time tables, and a cell with HK sim, which is very convenient. The room is clean and has a big bathroom (with shower), all necessary facilities are there (there is a heater in case you are as (un)lucky as we were to be in HK during the record cold days). One thing to bear in mind is that if you don't want to take expensive taxi back home from down town (where all partying takes place), you should catch the last train at about midnight. Highly recommend the place in conclusion. Thank you, Cecilie, we hope to see you again!
Enjoybale stay - would stay there again. Clean and comfortable room and en suite. Cecilie is friendly and approachable, and eager for her guests to enjoy their stay. The HK mobile is a nice touch.
I stayed as a solo traveller, and it was therefore quite spacious. With three people, it would be a bit less so (you would probably want to fold the sofa bed away each morning) but a great value place to stay.
Easy walking access to beach and hillside/forest walks. A couple of convenience stores and decent Chinese restaurants a few hundred metres away.
Pui O is a pleasant place to stay, away from the hustle and bustle of the built-up areas of Hong Kong, yet easily commutable by metro/bus (total journey time to Kowloon approx. 60-75 mins, and I think only about 10 HK Dollars if you use an Octopus card; if you were to travel by metro and then taxi, it would save half an hour and cost an extra 70 HK Dollars). There is a direct shuttle bus between Pui O and the airport, journey time approx 30mins, cost 13 HK Dollars. It only runs 3 or 4 times per day, however, the airport is just the other side of Lantau, so a taxi ride would be fairly cheap.
Lantau also has the Giant Buddha, a popular tourist attraction, and the second highest peak in Hong Kong.
We had a great time at the beach and and hiking trails.
Pui O is nice and relaxing.Well, the "Wonderful Village House" was a little different than expected, it ´s more like a room with a view to walls, the bed is unfortunately too small for two people and the couchbed was not useable. It´s not really a place to stay over the day. (I hope the construction site next door is finished soon), but it´s okay for a starting point for longer walks around Lantau or hang around at the wonderful beach.
Cecilie was very generous to let my family (2 adults and 3 little children) stay in her room for 3 nights over the New Year. It was cosy and our host tried her best to make our stay as comfortable as possible. Taking care of our laundry was a nice touch, as is the local phone number. If you're looking for a quiet, rural place to stay in HK with easy access to Central via ferry and 15 mins bus ride to Mei Wo (great Turkish restaurant) and only 10 mins walk from a delightful beach, then you can't go wrong with Cecilie's place. The only addition I would suggest the room needs is a shower curtain as the power shower inevitably results in a wet floor however careful you are...
This was our first experience with airbnb and it was a very pleasant one thanks to Cecilie, her helpers, the beautiful house and the wonderful location.
Cecilie accepted my booking and arranged everything even though I made the request only one day prior the arrival. We arrived very late in the evening but it was no problem for Cecilie and her helper even picked us up at the bus station at this late time. Wow! We didn't expect that. And it was really helpful because I guess it is not too easy to find the house even though we got really nice maps with pictures from Cecilie.
In the house everything was fine, it is an old house and you can tell but if you don't mind this it's a perfect stay. Personally I totally agree with one of the previous reviews that it is full of character and art.
If you come in winter you should consider that the room temperature is relatively low (as almost everywhere in HK because usually nobody has heatings) so make sure to bring enough warm clothes. If the sun is shining you can warm up on the fantastic terrace!
The location is so beautiful. We were looking for a quiet place to relax and this is what we found. We loved the peaceful village, go running and walking at the beach, hiking in the mountains and we loved the cute dog. The transportation around the island was easy and frequent and also to Hong Kong it was no problem even in the evening.
We enjoyed our time there!
The room Cecilie provided was pretty self-contained. The timetable and bus route info were really useful - I'm glad this was made available. This place is close to major transport hub on the island Mui Wo so it's easy to get around on the island. The room fits two fine and the ensuite bathroom is huge. There's a couple of shops and a restaurant down the road if you need to head out for a bite at night.
Compact, clean with all basic necessities one needs plus the bonus of gentle Lassi, the watchdog, to welcome you home with a wagging tail every day. Lovely little unspoilt village with friendly locals, green surrounds and beach close by. Easy to get to busy bustling city of HKG. Thank you, Cecilie, for wonderful stay and glad we had chance to catch up on the last day. Hope to be back soon.
I had an absolutely wonderful stay with Cecilie. I was very sad to leave! I was there for a month and the place has everything you need to settle in to a comfortable village/beach life. The beach is walking distance and it is very easy to get around the island on the buses that come right to the bottom of the road. The room is well appointed too and it is so quiet at night you feel like you're really in a secluded spot.
Cecilie is also a wonderful and warm host and makes you feel right at home. I'm going back for sure!
i think the apartment was bigger than what i wouldve got in hongkong, fine for me. Few little hiccups at first as i did not know how to get the shower hot water heater going but cecile was very helpful, her dogs are lovely and she is eager to go for walks and help you out. Nothing like learning from the locals!!!The mobile phone is a great idea!
We had a nice time in Pui O.
The location of the apartment was very good: beach, busstop, taxi stand, small shops and restaurant in short walking distance.
The apartment had everything we needed like a fridge and a watercooker.Everything was clean. The bathroom was very nice, but the bed was to small for two people, and the couchbed was not useable.
Cecilie was a good host and we enjoed staying in her room.
