Very nice old stone house, truly in the mountains, far from the towns and crowded tourist places, perfect for a quiet getaway. It's located on the steep mountainside at about 500m above the sea. It's a really peaceful and quite place, there are no other tourists around closely at all, and just few other old houses, inhabited by old local couples.
The house is naturally old and italian, with working pizza stove (I didnt try to bake pizza myself though), and two separate furnaces. There is also an outside terrace covered from the sun with vine leaves, perfect for the breakfast.
Also what is nice is that it's completely not hot in there. It's truly warm as it should be in summer, but because it's so up in the mountains - it's not so exhaustively boiling as it is down in the town. We've stayed at home a few times instead of going down to the beach, and it was quite enjoying.
You definitely need a car to stay in here, as there is no public transport anywhere close. If you need a car - ask Maurizio, he can lend you a sturdy five seater diesel pickup, quite suitable for local conditions.
The downside of the remoteness is that you need to go about 50 min by car to get to the closest free beach in Viareggio. Supplies are also in Viareggio, so you'll have to drive around a lot. There are no proper shops in Casoli and Camaiore (which are much closer), so don't count on that. There is though a very nice little restaurant "Osteria" just a few minutes from the house, right on the side of the serpentine mountain road, just above Casoli. It has free WiFi (there is no internet in the house itself) and all food there is really good.
This house is highly recommended if you need a quiet and relaxing getaway.
