This was our first trip to Costa Rica and the Guanacaste Province. The house is located close to Playa Pelada, and you will definitely need a car to get around (a 4x4 preferably due to the road conditions). It is about a 5-10 minute drive to Playa Guiones.
Gildas welcomed us on our first day, as did a random power outage. Luckily, the power returned about an hour later. The house is comfortable and the kitchen is roomy. You will need to bring your own personal care items, which luckily, I expected might be possible, including extra toilet paper. We didn't know how sensitive the septic system was, and that was a new experience as ALL paper items from the bathroom needed to be put in the trash, NOTHING can be flushed. During dry season, as it happened to be for us, the water goes off periodically. Gildas mentioned that he might look into getting a reserve tank, which would be helpful, as we didn't have water for two of the mornings when we woke. I would suggest having bottled water on hand for emergency use for hand-washing and teeth-brushing. There is a supermarket nearby (Super Nosara) that has large 5 litre bottles of water. We didn't realize that our host would be staying on property as much as he did, although he didn't use the kitchen or our area, he was around the yard. He and his girlfriend stayed in the studio above the house. So, it wasn't a completely private home for us to use. I believe if one rent's the house (including the upstairs) that he stays elsewhere.
The infinity pool is on a timer, and it is on from 8:00am-6:00pm. It is beautiful, and the whole family enjoyed it. Gildas cooked for us on our second night, and he is a remarkably talented chef. (It was supposed to be our arrival night, but without power, it was not possible). It was probably the best meal we had on our trip, and we had many good meals. The house is set back from the road, and Gildas has done a very good job with the landscaping to make it a private oasis. The air-conditioning works very well in the house, and we all were very comfortable in our rooms. All in all, we enjoyed our stay, even with some unexpected inconveniences.
I had a wonderful stay with a helpful landlord. Gildas spent time on my arrival to introduce me to the house features and to the best route to the beach for those amazing Playa Guiones "primordial" sunsets with the pelicans swirling and diving into the waters for their last fish meal.
The house was solid construction and modern design as advertised.
A wonderful, open cooks kitchen with extras like some additional spices and enough space to roller-skate if I desired! Blender and other small appliances were top notch. A cook's convection oven. No reason to dine out if you like to cook -- the very closeby Nosara "super-mercado" stocks all your needs including a butcher and fresh vegetables and wines and liquors.
A refreshing and clean plunge pool, indoor and outdoor living rooms, nice modern design baths (plenty o hot water). The outdoor large round sofa/chaise was a pleasure to read and nap on. The garden was well tended and added a nice touch of green during the winter dry season.
The supplied stereo amp (with sub-woofer) fit well with my Pandora app (internet radio) so I could listen to my favorite Jazz while reading or eating.
Gildas realized that I was alone as my companion had to stay back home. He offered and stopped by one evening and proved that he is also a good French cook (heavenly baked fresh fish catch in a moist, rendered sauce). While you may not get this optional treat; I was overwhelmed by such a generous offer and felt lucky.
Nomad came just as advertised. It was spectacular, clean and our host, Gildas is invisible unless you need anything. Then he is right there! The house and grounds are beautiful. I will make only one warning and it has nothing to do with the home or the host. The location is only accessible by a rough gravel road the last 10-15 miles. A sport utility vehicle is a fabulous choice. ALL the people in this area are extremely friendly and helpful and there are lots of eating and drinking choices tucked down every dirt road.
I liked Gildas’ place, and I liked the Nosara area. Gildas is an excellent and patient host.
A map of the Nosara area looks like a plate of spaghetti, and Gildas kindly took us on a whirlwind reconnoitering as soon as we arrived. Very helpful.
We spent much of our time lounging on the spacious terrace and lazing in his pool. The one time we had an immediate maintenance issue (one of the bedroom air conditioners) he got an electrician to the house and resolved the problem immediately. We live in the mountains of Costa Rica, and that kind of service can be hard to find here.
We did not use his cooking services, but that is not because of any fault in it. Because we live in the rural mountains, the number of excellent restaurants in the Nosara area was part of our reason for choosing it as a vacation spot. It did not disappoint.
BTW: for restaurants in the area, we recommend La Lagarta, La Luna, the Pacifico Azul, and El Chivo.
If you go the Nosara area, this is THE place to stay!
The house is fantastic - amazing design, a restaurant like kitchen, a nice and big garden and a super relaxing pool!
Gildas is exactly the kind of person you want to meet during your stay - he knows everyone and everything about the area, Costa Rica, and maybe even has a piece of life advice for you :) You need to try one of his meals - definitely including desert!
We will definitely come back to this lovely place!
The Nomad house is located on a quiet road about 10 minutes from the beach. It is a beautiful property tucked into the jungle and has its own private infinity pool.
The commercial kitchen is fun to cook in and the decor has a lovely moroccan vibe.
My family and I spent four days here and enjoyed sitting outside on the patio, relaxing, swimming and listening to music.
A perfect spot for a quiet getaway!!
We had a great stay at Gildas's house. It is beautiful and serene with plenty of space. The price is amazing for all you get. Thanks, Gildas!
Gildas was an amazing host! His house was wonderful. He lives upstairs but never bothered us once. His pool was awesome, the house has A/C plenty of clean towels. There was an issue with the water pressure one day and we raised the concern to him and he left right away to go investigate.
Nosara is a beautiful quiet peacful beach town. There is plenty to do there, it is very beautiful. ATVing, hiking, surfing, fishing Overall, a great expierence. I would definitly stay at Gildas's house again.
What a fantastic trip. The house was beautiful, perfect for us. The pool perfect, thank you so much for all your hard work Gildas. Thankyou so much for your wonderful hospitality and creativity in creating such a wonderful place for us to enjoy. Pura vida!
Had a fabulous time staying at Nomad. The house itself is eclectic, beautiful, clean, comfy. The pool was terrific place from which to swim in the rain or watch the stars. Kitchen was very well organized and laid out. Hot showers and never a problem with water pressure. Washer and dryer were definitely appreciated. Howlers make their way into the trees; I got so close, one drooled on me! Birds of all kinds are easily seen from the terrace. Beds were firm, but I'm happy with that. Gildas was a wonderful host, never imposing but never too far away to answer questions. Tons to do using Nomad as a base camp for long or short day trips. Playa Pelada, Lagarta Lodge, and a Gildas-made meal I would consider a 'do not miss' when staying here. It is a one-of-kind place and worth the hassle of unpaved roads. I hope to return soon!
