We had an amazing time here! Such a beautiful area to explore and enjoy. Ronnie (the caretaker) was super helpful and incredibly nice. The place was cozy and very inviting. We would love to return in the future.
The cabin was pretty much as expected. It's set back from the river but walkable. And the river is gorgeous there. Paxton was a great central location for the various trips around the area that we did. No trouble finding the place. The neighbors were all friendly. Besides the 7 am chain saw and wood chipper wake up call that wouldn't end and work crew outside our window Saturday morning- which wasn't the peaceful cabin experience we were hoping for- Saturday evening and Sunday were peaceful and relaxing just like we wanted. I would still recommend it.
This is a wonderful place! As a female traveling with just my two french Bulldogs I was a bit nervous. No need to be. Upon arrival I was greeted by Alan, another guest and Dwayne, who lives on the property. Both were so helpful answering my many questions and helping me locate fantastic hiking trails in the area. The accommodations were wonderful, the location beautiful and the company was awesome. Thanks Dwayne and Alan for making my stay so awesome.
Paxton is a wonderful and unique resort from a bygone age where I enjoyed a woodsy, peaceful, and occasionally adventurous retreat in the early springtime by myself. The lodging available to guests consists of three nearly identical rustic cabins (this listing, where I stayed) and a fully remodeled cabin called “the Todd” that is listed separately on Air BnB. Also on the grounds but not open to guests is the grand, 100-year-old lodge with its moose heads and such, two cabins permanently occupied by residents, and several houses undergoing renovation down closer to the river, one of which is permanently occupied by the caretaker, Ronnie. My overall experience was excellent. The bed was comfortable, the kitchen was functional, and the cabin was cozy and a great value. The owner, Liz, was fast and easy with communication, and when I arrived, I was greeted and taken care of by both Ronnie and one of the permanent cabin residents, Duane, a colorful retiree. There were a few minor issues with the cabin such as a clogged drain and a troublesome heater, and in each case, Ronnie scrambled to fix the problem. It wasn’t hard making friends with Ronnie, Duane, and the owners in the casual Paxton atmosphere, and getting to know them was very rewarding. I spent my time hiking the unlimited mountain trails in the area, swimming in the river, driving out on exploratory trips with Duane, panning for gold with Ronnie, shooting my bow at various targets on the grounds, sitting by the campfire in front of my cabin, writing, and generally being free and at ease. It is a place where nothing needs to be locked, and when I returned to the frantic pace of the city, the mental change I had experienced was palpable. I should give one word of caution however: Paxton is a restoration work in progress. This means that it is constantly getting better and the owners are attentive and present, but it also means that there may occasionally be noisy work involving chainsaws or other power equipment, though not at ungodly hours and usually with warning. Regardless, I would highly recommend this place to any of my friends as a quiet, romantic, or outdoor-adventure retreat. I hope to return soon.
We (my boyfriend, my dog and I) had such a blast here this past weekend. Although we got there a little late at night Liz was at the main lodge to welcome us! The cabin is located on a beautiful property with a gorgeous river, and we just loved the rustic setting of our place. It has everything you need and more. We spent our daytime exploring around the property and a few lakes to go fishing, and at night we enjoyed the meal cooked right in our cabin. There are a few permanent residents (and dogs!) next to the cabin who are very friendly. We are definitely going back there again during the summer time to enjoy swimming and fishing.
This was a great little cabin! We booked it the night before, and McKenna got back to me quickly the next morning. I appreciated the prompt response. I stayed one night with my friend and dog, and all of us felt welcomed the moment we drove onto the property. The on-site manager, Ronnie, was very accommodating upon our arrival. We stayed at Cabin 5, which was cozy yet spacious for the three of us. There is a river walking distance from the room, and a sweet lodge as well with an awesome antique vibe. I'll remember Paxton as the city with a population of 13 during the weekdays, and 31 during the weekends (Actual population sign when exiting off the 70).
It was our first time on Airbnb and at the cabin but I would say this was the best experience so far. We booked this cabin for valentines day celebration. This Cabin is recently renovated and best among the all other cabins nearby. It has all new upgrades and is completely renovated.... My wife liked the layout so much that she said that we should build the house with this layout. Kitchen was well stocked with frequently used items and utensils (we didn't used it as we were not aware of it so we had packed our Dinner and Lunch for next day with us ). It also has outdoor gas Grill.
Over all it was nice experience and we would definitely come again to stay at "The Todd"
We had a wonderful stay over the weekend! It is a small and simple cabin but it had everything we needed. The surrounding area is gorgeous. We drove out to Lassen and enjoyed a hike in the snow. Liz is very quick to respond and kind. Great experience and would love to come back sometime!
We had a great time at the cabin. It was very clean, everything functioned perfectly and nice hot water. We stayed in late December and while it was cold outside, the cabin did heat up warmly with the small heater provided and we didn't feel cold during the night. I would recommend this for anyone who wants a quiet, peaceful retreat - we hardly saw a person, which was great!
I stayed in Cabin 2 for three nights and had an overall good experience. They were very accommodating to my last minute booking. I was greeted upon arriving by Ronnie the on site manager. He got me settled and had to do some rearranging of the room since the hot water heater and 2 outlets were not working but he got everything set up. It was dark when I arrived so he was able to fix those two issues in the morning. He was very knowledgeable of the area and recommended some good hiking spots. The cabin was exactly as advertised. It is very basic and rustic but comfortable. They seem to be in the process of updating the cabins and the lodge. I would definitely stay here again...especially if the cabins are updated. The location is really nice.
It was a pleasure to have McKenna at home. They left the unit in a perfect shape. I would be pleased to welcome them back and strongly recommend them as guests ! Jean
