I very much enjoyed my stay at Greg's house. The finca room is upstairs and has a bathroom located outside the room which is usually just for the person staying in the room, but occassionally is shared with another guest if the house is full. The room itself is comfortable, with windows and a nice bed. The house is AMAZING and during my month stay I really felt like it became my home. I will definitely try to stay here again when visiting Antigua!
Arriving at Gregs after a 14 hour flight was wonderful, it felt like being at home. I'd definitely recommend staying at Gregs if you're visiting Antigua and would rather be in a unique setting a little away from the centre.
I had a great experience staying at Greg's. He is an excellent host and attracts a nice group of people - I met several new friends during the month that I stayed there. Nancy, the lady who works at the house, is wonderful, too. Additionally, I appreciated the peace and quiet of the neighborhood, the greenery, the fabulous views from the roof deck, and the reliably fast internet.
We loved every moment in this amazing place. A beautiful house with a great Yoga room. It has such a nice design and we felt at home with the way Greg treated us and helped us in any thing we asked for and more. Thank you for this great experience. We hope to come soon again
Overall, this place is great and I will stay here again. Greg was more than accommodating and the place has a laid back and lush feel.
GARDEN ROOM: Very cute and functional with attention to design. Note that if you’re over 5’6” this bed will not work for you. I am 5’5” and I basically reach end to end. For me it was perfect and had the best bedding of anywhere I’ve stayed in Guatemala (nice heavy comforter).
PRIVACY: None of the rooms have doors- just curtains, so this is not a house for loud or unconscious people. I sleep in earplugs so I had no problems with the noises of people coming and going in the kitchen (and I love to sleep in) but the room is adjacent to the laundry room and kitchen, and the maid opens the kitchen and outside doors in the morning so you are right in the mix of everything happening in that part of the house. There is good airflow in the room, but if you are sensitive to laundry smells, you’ll want to pick an upstairs room. The laundry is your new best friend, since it’s on the other side of your door-curtain. On the plus side, you can wash your clothes in a snap! The garden room is the tiny room of the house, but it’s an excellent choice if you’re trying to save some money but want access to an amazing house.
HOUSE: Immaculate attention to detail in style and function (including motion sensor house lights). The library is packed with fascinating books, and the home theater/lounge feels luxurious — but more importantly, is easy to use. The yoga room has a heat lamp and chakras painted to correspond with the directions and the elements. I didn’t get to try out the igloo-style sauna but was told it is great. Superb kitchen, fireplace, deck, and roof patio. Killer view. The roof canopy is a huge solar panel. Truly hot water (Hurray!)
This place is quite special and I will come back. If you are too impatient to walk in to town (or it’s too dark), ask the number of a few tuk tuk driver so you have someone to call for a pick-up. The neighborhood is well-known by the drivers. It’s ~$3/ride to town, but during the day, the walk is beautiful if you take the longer route. You're also quite close to Caoba farms, an organic farm and market. (Travelers with sensitive tummies: get your kombucha there; they refrigerate. It will keep you happy and healthy for your trip.)
The place is like a fairytale. Look at the photos and trust me that the reality is better. Staying at Greg was an amazing experience and we are very happy that we had the chance to stay here and discover Antigua. The neighborhood is very clean, friendly and quite. You have to walk 5 minutes to the chicken bus station and you pay just Q1 to go to the center. If you take the Tuk Tuk will cost Q15. Greg is a very nice host. He makes you feel like home. Kitchen, library, fireplace, roof terrace, washing machine, beautiful yard, projector, etc
We were met at the dock by Gaspar who took us to the home, showed us around and explained in great detail how everything worked and made us feel very welcome.
Eagle's nest is a cosy, well planned space with amazing views of the lake, other villages, volcanoes and spectacular sunrises.
The location is off the beaten track and could be a challenge for the non fit, however we thoroughly enjoyed the privacy and undoubtedly the best views in San Marcos.
Greg was very welcoming when we arrived. He gave us a full tour of his cool house. We were welcome in his super hot sauna (drink lots of water before if you plan to use it), he was open to casual conversation and to sharing dinner for those who want (for a price).
Greg is a great host and made us feel totally welcome in his lovely home. The place is fully of energy and there are many fab places to hang out and enjoy Greg's and other's company. There are also many places that you relax alone enjoying the views, gardens and the sun if you choose.
Sunrises and sunsets are not to be missed from the roof terrace.
The kitchen is well equipped assisted in the listing.
Our room was spacious, comfortable and peaceful.
Although the home is located 25 to 30 minutes walk from the centre of the city, the distance from town is worth it because of the picturesque and peaceful neighbourhood.
We recommend Greg's house as a wonderful place to stay in Antigua.
Greg's 'Eagle's nest' was a fantastic place that provided the perfect setting for relaxation, contemplation, and serenity seeking. The view was amazing, the sunlight full & bright all day, and the open air ambience created when all the doors and windows were thrown open was thoroughly enjoyable. Also, the bed was comfy, the kitchen well equipped, and the bathroom clean (and t.p. flushable!).
Greg himself was quick to respond and very accommodating while Gaspar, the caretaker, was attentive and helpful.
A few things that might be useful to know:
1. There is no internet but I bought a usb modem in Guatemala (~$20) that worked great at the house, despite its slightly remote location.
2. The house is reached via a short footpath that is neither vehicle accessible nor amenable to luggage with wheels. Backpacks are highly recommended if staying here.
3. There were a lot of outdoor noises - a cacophony of dogs, roosters who don't distinguish between night and day, cicadas, a neighbour's drum practicing, community sermons via loudspeakers, etc. - so bring good earplugs if you are sensitive to sounds.
4. It gets chilly up there in the evenings and nights. Wish I'd brought my fleece pajamas.
Overall, a great experience and I would completely recommend this place to those who are free spirited and enjoy unique settings as the Eagle's nest is definitely that.
Greg is a person who knows how to live life and very aware of nature. We talked and spend some time talking about various topics and I quickly realized that he is a valuable person. totally recommend Greg as a guest. you will have a respectful guest and will learn from his company.
Looked after everything wonderfully and left the house clean.
Greg stayed with us for two nights and i have no complaints to make! He seems to be a well travelled and open minded guy and was great to chat to. Wish him all the best
Great place with gorgeous windows to Las Canteras and the beautiful sea that can change colours from one minute to the other.
The addresse is ideal at the part of the beach where it's a more quiet at the same time as it is centrally located. Every morning I went for a swim just twenty meters from the front door.
The appartement has everything I needed. A nice little kitchen that provided me with what I needed to cook some delicious food.
I sleept in the small room. It was totally quiet and the bed was comfortable.
I very much recommend it!
Greg is one of the kindest and most generous people that I know. As a host, no one can compare, Greg is a born host and an even more lovey guest. Really the perfect combination of fun, gregarious (so fitting), intelligent, witty, funny, quiet...like a chameleon, beautifully in the flow of the energies that surround him.
Delightful to be with, knowledgeable, courteous, superb sense of humour, Perfect in many ways. His place is amazing and I cannot recommend anyone else more highly.
Greg's House in Antigua Guatemala is really beautiful, cosy and located in a calm neighborhood....I highly raccomend it to you....enjoy!!!!
We spent 10 days in Greg´s house, traveling as 3 couples. We were enchanted by the tranquility of the neighborhood. Watching the sunrise and sunsets from the rooftop deck was just fantastic. The garden is a tremendous asset to the already perfect interior setting of the house. We could truly relax and make ourselves at home. Antigua was within easy access in the Landrover - a great car for this city. Greg was a good host and answered all our questions promptly. He really made us feel comfortable with letting his house. I would certainly come here again and recommend his charming house to anyone thinking of vacationing in Antigua Guatemala.
Greg's thoughtfulness, wide ranging knowledge and interests and general good heartedness makes him such a special and wonderful person. His home in Antigua, Guatemala is a slice of paradise with all necessary touches and more you wouldn't have thought of to make sure your stay is genuinely comfortable and easy. Enjoy!
