La maman d angela est vraiment très gentille et accueillante !
Elle nous a offert un thé de bienvenue.
La chambre est très grande et propre ainsi que la salle de bain .
The room was lovely. It was clean, spacious and had a good atmosphere. There is a small kitchen area which has some basic equipment. There is a nice bathroom attached to the main room with a good shower - when it worked. There were repairs happening to the water system while we were there which will hopefully improve the situation. There did not appear to be a water supply during the night. Whether this has been rectified by the repairs which were happening while we were there we do not know. We also found that the noise from the street was a bit of a nuisance at times.
We got a lovely warm welcome from Angela's mother who, although there was a bit of a language barrier, looked after us wonderfully, especially when we were unwell, bringing us delicious snacks and effective remedies.
The accommodation provided by Angela was nice and cozy. It was at walking distance from the city center and some nice restaurants. I faced some trouble with the internet but Angela ensured that it was addressed on a priority basis. Her mother was very helpful and even though I could not communicate with her, she prepared the breakfast and game me company for the breakfast. Also since it was close to the city center so you could get a feel of the city as well. All in all, it was a nice cosy apartment where your basic needs were taken care of.
Angela's house in San Blas is a quick walk away from plaza de armas. The apartment was very easy to find. Angela lives in the US but manages the listing online for her mother Marcela. Angela was very available over phone and email to answer any questions that couldn't be answered because of Marcelas limited English and my limited Spanish skills. Both ladies are very sweet and friendly.
This place is also very close to a gem of a market that boasts a lot of fresh local food.
The apartment has a small but functional kitchenette equipped with basic things such as a mini fridge and a kettle. The bathroom had ample hot water - and the water supply was uninterrupted all through the night - even if we were prepared for an outage. Angela and Marcela had advised about the probable outage well in advance.
Marcela also showed us how to lock and unlock all the Concerned doors in the house due to some problems mentioned in previous reviews. It was very straightforward to us and we had no issues.
Marcela is a very warm person and we enjoyed interacting with her using our translation apps. All in all, we enjoyed our stay at her house, which provided us with an authentic cusco experience.
Angela's room in her mom's house was lovely. Very "Cuzco". Quaint and comfortable. Her mom (Marcela) is so sweet and warm. She brought us coca tea on arrival and proudly showed us pictures of her family. Saturday just happened to be the night before we were to take a tour starting at 0500 am - who knew Cuzquenos liked to party so hard? The bar across the street had the music cranked up so loud that earplugs didn't touch the bass. I asked Marcela if she knew when the music usually stopped (it was 9pm ) she didn't seem to understand me so I texted Angela my question. Before Angela had a chance to answer, the music suddenly dropped about 50 decibals. Apparently, Marcela had walked across the street and told the bar to turn the music down. Nice. The room had a Private ensuite bathroom and fast WiFi. Small refrigerator in room and cooking area. Unfortunately, we were unaware that the water shuts off at 9pm. This prevent toilet flushing and showers but by this time we were too tired to care and were hopeful we would have water in the morning (and we did).
Angela and her mother were wonderful! This is our second stay at her place.
90% of our experience was great, but there are a couple really important things to note if you are staying here. Angela's mom was great - greeted us with coca tea when we arrived, the room is clean and neat, the bathroom is nice, there's very good water pressure and truly hot water. Wireless works very well. The location is also fantastic in San Blas and very close to the Plaza and lots of great restaurants/shops.
Things to note - there is something weird about the hours the water is on that we weren't told about - from what I could tell, it's turned off from about 9pm-3am (the 3am part I found out when I woke up to the shower spitting water out because I must not have turned the knobs all the way after trying and failing to take a shower after the water had been off).
The other important thing is that you may need the keys to get into and OUT OF every door. We left at 5am in the morning for a flight and unlocked both our room door and the front door to the house with the key (you can't unlock the doors from inside without the key - seems like a crazy fire hazard but that's how they do it in South America). So then we left the key on the table, and to some horror and panic found that the gate in the courtyard was locked and only open-able with the key. Trouble is we now had no key to get back into the apt. We tried to knock on doors but no one was up and luckily managed to force the courtyard door open (the deadbolt doesn't quite go in far enough so with a little bit of a shove we knocked it open even though the lock was still locked.) Any other time of day it would've been fine, but at 5am with a flight to catch, it was a bit of a scare.
But like I said, the rest of our experience was fantastic - just would've been useful to know those things first!
Wonderful room with separate bathroom and a kitchenette. We were cordially received by Angela's mother and even though we don't speak Spanish we felt welcome.
It is centrally located with easy access to Plaza Armas and surroundings.
