A very nice place to stay, with beautiful décor, very accommodating hosts and a lovely range of breakfast items in the morning. For me, it was not what I was expecting: I'd interpreted the 'private mezzanine' to mean that the room was out of the way, as I was looking for somewhere very quiet to get some work done. Although Jan was very obliging in moving a desk upstairs for me, it was actually quite noisy with the TV below. This would be a perfect place to stay for anyone who isn't trying to work (i.e. most people!), but not as private as I'd anticipated.
This visit I had time for breakfast ... Jan had put lots of stuff out ... beans, eggs, cereals, teas etc ... lovely.
Lovely rooms with private entrance. Heating left on (good job because it was freezing outside) and interesting location on the high canal in Glasgow - it's really just a place to stay as there's not really much else around. Fab shower, and it feels spacious even if the ceiling is a little low, though there's not much that Jan can do about that! Definitely appreciated the regular messages from her.
I've had a wonderful time at Speirs Wharf. The apartment is very nice and clean and Jan is such a nice person.
My visit to Glasgow with Jan was my first Airbnb experience and it really set a very high standard. The property is in a great location, is clean, modern and is very comfortable. Pretty much had the run of the whole flat due to Jan's working schedule but we caught up for a couple of chats and she was very friendly. Breakfast is laid out every morning and is very much a 'help yourself' situation. Had a few issues accessing the gym and pool facilities but Jan was quick to get this sorted for me. I wish her all the best with the upcoming move and thank her for her lovely hospitality.
Jan was a great host. While she had to leave early in the morning she had already set the breakfast table for us and arranged everything in the kitchen so we could easily prepare our own breakfast. But first we had a dive in the pool that was part of the facilities and also sat in the jacuzzi for a little while. Oh, and it's just a 10 minute walk into the city centre. We would definitely stay with Jan again.
Best airbnb stay I've had so far (out of a total six!). It's like a 3-4 star hotel but with the warmth of a home and two lovely people (Jan and Leigh) to chat with. Incredible value for money, all was perfect, an immense asset to airbnb and a joy for guests.
Maybe the only thing I'm not 100% satisfied with is the location, it is not too far from the city center (about half an hour walk) but on your way back it's uphill so not extremely comfortable. Anyway, you can take a taxi for five pounds...
overall, this stay is wholeheartedly recommended.
Response from Jan:
Hi a little bit upset over this review , its not half hour to city only about 10/ 15 mins( see other guests reviews ) . and as for up hill where is the hill ? a flight of steps you mean to the canal.
Jan is a gracious hostess with a lovely home to share. It is in a very convenient location with excellent walking paths nearby. The accommodations were very clean and the breakfast arrangements were lovely.
Jan and Leigh were the perfect hosts, and the room was comfortable and warm. The building itself looks fantastic when lit up at night its also close enough to the city center to walk in. All in all it is well worth a stopover.
Amazing place, amazing, fun people. Separate entrance so it's de-facto a private flat which was nice, could come and go at any hour without any problems. Could not possibly want more for breakfast and the spa/pool/sauna/gym area was incredible, that in it self was worth it!! Definitely going to try to stay here next time I'm in Glasgow! :)
