I had a great stay in Charles & Claire's home in Ashland - they are good hosts. The place is furnished really nicely and a relaxing environment. Its a nice quite spot and only a short walk into the main streets of Ashland.
Claire and Charles have a great place. They were very welcoming, gave us ideas of places to eat, and were respectful of our privacy. I would happily stay here again.
We very much enjoyed our stay. We spent one night in Ashland to go to a play at the famous theater. We were able to walk there in about a half an hour. Claire gave us good directions that helped us avoid most traffic. All in all Claire was very gracious and most helpful and flexible. The bed we slept in was one of the most comfortable that we had been in for a long time.
It should be noted that there are two significant flights of stairs to get to the front door of the property. I would not suggest this for anyone who has a mobility impairment. Otherwise I would not hesitate to recommend this property.
This was our first Airbnb experience, and though it was a fair value, I disagree with all the five star ratings. Overall, this was a three star experience.
Positives: Friendly host, quiet neighborhood, close enough to walk to everything important in Ashland, inexpensive, comfortable furniture, well equipped
Negatives: Cleanliness issues (explained below), noisy heat
What soured us the most in a mostly pleasant visit were the cleanliness issues that we noticed. The cloth place mats had some small food stains on them, which looked very recent, presumably from previous occupants. The kitchen linens were dingy gray instead of white. The non-slip mat in the bathtub was dirty, and there were a few hairs in the tub from the previous occupant as well. The rug in the bathroom was very dirty. We're not neat freaks by any stretch, but though this space was very tidy and had a lot of thoughtful touches, we were a little grossed out by the bathroom and kitchen cleanliness issues.
Regarding the heat, it's baseboard heat, which is fine as long as you don't try to use it while you're sleeping. The first night we thought we would keep the bedroom heat on a little because it was chilly. But every time the heat cycles on and off, it's accompanied by lots of metallic ting-ting-ting-click-clack-clang sounds. Neither of us got much sleep that night, and so just left it off the next night.
As others have loved this home, perhaps the cleanliness items were an isolated incident. Had they not existed, the review would have been four stars. There's just no way this is five stars though. Five stars is the highest you can get. Five stars is perfection. This was quaint, but nowhere near perfection.
Please don't book with us if you are in an unhappy marriage like Lisa and Jeff!
Gorgeous decor and thoughtful high end touches like organic coffee and a vintage record player. Very comfortable bed/linens and great location. We left the car to walk the 15 minutes into town center 1-2 times per day and enjoyed the perfect spring weather. Claire was a gracious and accommodating host for us and our baby, and we appreciated the availability of the fully stocked kitchen and laundry. We will surely be back the next time we are in town.
The home was even cuter in person! Claire & Charles have a wonderful place. The place is well located and it is nice and quiet. The bed is extremely comfortable and the coffee was delicious! It was perfect for our stay in Ashland! Also, our drive into Ashland was longer than we thought, and Claire was flexible with our arrival time. Definitely recommend!
I had a lovely and smooth stay at this place. Very clean and nicely decorated house equipped with everything you need. They were very responsive and understanding of my late arrival.
A very happy place to stay! Claire welcomed me in person, showed me around the place, and gave me some great recommendations of places to eat (Breadboard!). Comfy bed and pillows, decorated really nicely. Though I didn't make use of it, I liked the touch of supplying postcards (and postcard stamps!) at the writing desk. Many thumbs up.
This was a darling space in Ashland. Claire was waiting for me (literally) at the top of the steps with a smile. It was clean, organized, and was just the right place for the trip.
Claire also had several great suggestions for food, activities, hikes and the Shakespeare plays.
Overall the stay was very comfortable.
Clarie was ready to greet us upon arrival and gave us an efficient orientation to the duplex. It is a very quiet neighborhood and you can walk to the Lithia Park area. Free Maps of Ashland have the shops and resturaunts listed. Quiet, clean, nice to have your own kitchen. Coffee beans and cream provided. Good location for exploring the area.
Claire & Charles were great guests! They communicated well and went beyond the call of duty to leave my place sparkling. They would be welcome back in a flash.
Perfect! I hope they come back again!
Amazing guest. Super responsible clean and fun :)
Claire and Charles where great! Would welcome them back anytime:)
Charles and his daughter were great house guests! We highly recommend hosting them if you get a chance.
Charles was a great house guest, in fact I hardly knew he was here as his stay was brief and he was out and about. He left the room very clean and was easy to communicate with.
