I founded Vida Dulce (Sweet Life) in the Fall of 2002 on a whim after several trips to Guatemala. With an eye on fashion trends, I have been able to tap into the artistic talents of the indigenous Maya designing jewelry incorporating multiple mediums that are available from glass seed beads, hand carved wooden pieces to the beautiful handwoven fabrics of the Mayan women.
Working directly with the artisans, many times in their homes, often working with both husband and wife, sisters, cousins... I am assured all workers are fairly treated and earn a fair wage. Materials are researched and resourced ethically as well, ensuring all items are socially responsible.
In keeping with my theme of 'cottage industry' I'd much rather see my accommodation dollars go to families and individuals rather than the corporate world.
